That was too long for an animal to be struggling. Is that the standard method for slaughtering turkeys. Seems like there should be a quicker method.

i wouldnt suggest going to do any investigations on the treatment and handling of animals before they are killed and how they are killed.

i still eat meat, but not certain kinds now.

Every time they have a blood drive I have to pass simply due to my time spent in Germany in the 80's. I don't have mad cow disease at least as far as I know but they will not accept my blood and that was due to time spent serving in the army.

becoming our food and then that they are slaughtered humanely and without suffering. Those animals looked like they were suffering and that it took way took long for it to finally be dead. Very disturbing. I suppose that the reality is that most of us have no idea about how our food died. Animal husbandry should be done with the utmost thought and concern for the animal. That place did not look like a place that cared very much for the animal. The man doing the slaughter had that little smirk on his face the whole time, more interested in checking out the Guv and didn't seem to care about the struggling bleeding animal right at his hands that he was killing. Very sickening situation and even the moment in which Palin refers to being there as "fun". Thank Gawd she is not going to be anywhere near the White House. Hopefully ever.

Meanwhile, we aren't having Turkey this Thanksgivng. That video did me in for awhile on Turkey meat.

I buy meat from Whole Foods, which has the same philosophy towards animal husbandry. We should respect the animals that become our source of food, which means ensuring that they are treated humanely, and slaughtered quickly to minimize pain.

I grew up with the birds being killed by having their necks wringed. I never did it and never could, but it was done really quickly. After it was done, the bird ran around the yard headless until it finally stopped. It goes with the old concept that we live for a few seconds after we are beheaded. (French revolution thoughts) Anyway, when you are raised with this concept, it does not bother you that much to see it. It is just a part of life and death.

There is a story about a chicken that lived after having it's head chopped off. The owners poke food into its neck and it continued to exist. They charged money for people to see it. Don't know if it is still alive, but that really is creepy.

Sorry to creep people out, but am just blunt with my thoughts today.

I do NOT want to hear one more word of Palin being pro-life of anything or anyone. This woman stands cooly by while turkeys are being slaughtered behind her. The sound effects are chilling enough. This made everyone in our lab laugh today, this woman is SURREAL. How can she not know how offensive this was?
And about slaughtering animals, after you slit the animal's throat, they lose consciousness really fast (theoretically)
and their bodies thrash around in an unconscious reaction even without the head attached. So they say the animal
is not feeling pain any longer, but there are flight responses that last even beyond the death of consciousness.
I have seen more than one animal die, and this is why when HUMANS die, we usually give them heavy doses of sedatives,
to keep the dearly beloved around them from becoming too freaked out.
