1. Then she's on par..

....with many freshman college students I encounter. Although it shocks me every time someone refers to Africa as a country, I'm a little more forgiving to an 18 year old. (Even then it's ridiculous.)

I mean, everybody knows that Africa is two countries: South Africa and North Africa.

not so much Palin was a dimwit, we know all that, but Carl Cameron held this information from the public. He state we decided this info was off the record. Who in the hell decided this was off the record?!!!!!!!!!! This is more example of FIXED NEWS lying and lying and lying and lying to the public. Unbelievable!!!!

81. the source decided it was off the record...
If Cameron (and other reporters) didn't respect that, than no one would ever tell him anything off the record and much less of this sort of damning information would EVER see the light of day.

Would you rather the source had NEVER told Cameron and we wouldn't ever know about this?

The only time journalists and reporters should ever burn sources is when it's clear the source was lying to them in order to advance some partisan angle (like, say, Judith Miller during the lead-up to the Iraq War). But if it's honest information from the source, but the source says to keep it off the record, they need to sit on it or else they (and their viewers/readers) won't ever hear from that source again (and other sources would likely learn about it and themselves refuse to provide any new information).

It sucks, but as with most things, you have to tolerate the bullshit to enjoy the good stuff. We have to tolerate Neo Nazi rallies in order to be able to speak our own minds; we need to tolerate reporters sitting on juicy (though, in this case, highly relevant) stories in order to have sources for the even bigger stories.

Fox still sucks of course. ;-)

108. but that is the hypocrisy of the GOP
they demanded the San Fran Chronicle to release the video from an insignificant banquent Obama attended briefly with Khalidi, but when told it was protected because the source demanded it, they flip a shit and say 'the liberal media is trying to win this election.' The unending hypocrisy of these sycophants is never ending, and quite sad to behold

113. "All of it was put off the record until after the election"
So was it some deep throat source that happened to be standing behind the curtain at every one of Palin's interviews and meetings? It sounds more like 'all of it was put off the record' by Murdoch and upper management at FAUX news.

But FAUX News are so pure and good aren't they. If they had know of some similar tantrums and rebellion going on in the Biden camp, they would have shut their mouths about it too

................................................NOT.

115. Murdoch builds a case.
He is good at this. He wants the "fair and balanced" interviews to sway his consumers long term. He knows the news cycles. The reality will long be forgotten. The implication will settle with the faithful.

Edited on Wed Nov-05-08 11:37 PM by Jack Rabbit
Like that fat idiot we saw in the video with the stuffed monkey named Little Hussein wearing an Obama bumper sticker on its cap.

The GOP base really is base.

They don't think you have to know anything to be president. All the president has to be is a good Christian who believes in converting Jews and killing Muslims. After, the sole purpose Mohammad walked the earth 14 centuries ago was to undermine the divine authority God placed in a nation yet unfounded in land yet unknown in Mohammad's time and place.

101. Anti-intellectualism
The Bush version of the GOP is the anti-intellectualism version. This dumb idea that the Prez should be just like your stupid dumb-ass uncle Joe.....the plumber....or whatever. Palin is clearly in this tradition.

It's time to show what real intellectuals are like. Not all are opera-ballet-Shakespeare loving nerds (like me).... some are like Rachel Maddow who loves sad country songs and is a policy wonk. Some are sports casters, like Olbermann. It's not elitist. It's just people who are interested in the world around them.... the whole world. It's time to make being a nerdy wonk with knowledge the place to be.

It's like DEVO sings...."We're through being cool!"

50. that's still a joke around our house
If the media never mentioned it, we must have picked it up from DU, because we still talk about it around here. I actually don't remember the exact quote but it was something like "Africa is a big country."

Although I may be confusing it with what he said at the dinner at which he was caught on camera chewing with his mouth open while talking to Tony Blair (OMG I'm so glad he's going to be gone soon... what a disgusting representation of our country he has been) and said something about how everybody was going to be leaving for home soon and that the Chinese delegation had a ways to go because "China is a big country."

To get this and other tidbits he seems to know, he had to agree with his source to sit on it until after the election. That's why you're going to hear about it now.

The McCain people seem to be royally PO'd at Mrs. Palin. Nobody like a know-it-all who knows nothing.

7. So Fox knew this and they were muzzled? and now they aren't?
No wonder they weren't as enthusiastically pushing McCain as they did dumb Bush.

And why the revelation now? To make sure she doesn't go anywhere in her career? To make sure McCain doesn't go anywhere? To ingratiate themselves with the Democrats? Kind of like the "leaked" email of a Fox staffer defending Obama (though DU'ers say he's probably leaving FOX anyways). Or are there chinks in Murdoch's armor?

Very interesting. I always thought of FOX as in lock step with the Republicans, complete with talking points of the day. This feels a bit like a mafia boss losing his hold and the underlings are vying for power.

Hmm. Going to be eating a lot of popcorn for the next few days. Will we find out why Sarah didn't release her medical records?

124. I agree about her family... No ones business. But I think for as long as she holds public office
and is on government payroll , we the public have a right to know about
her physical mental health. After all, it's taxpayers that make her
salary possible whether her position is VP, governor or senator.

They take these well paid positions, with all the perks, to supposedly represent the people, state and/or the country and to the same entities they are accountable.

Just my humble opinion.

93. Taffy, I saw the whole interview on Fox this morning
and the reporter said McCain picked Palin as an 'I'll show you' to his peeps for their refusing Lieberman as V.P. So the reporter held onto this info too, and 55 million people voted for a guy who based his VP choice on a 'screw you' moment. That sucks.

ps. I've only started watching Fox again to see how they are 'handling' the situation. It was fun to watch how depressed they were Tuesday night. Speaks volumes for their 'unbaised' reporting (add McCain chubby-finger quotes here).

9. If this is true about her ignorance,
temperament, and arrogance, this scares me a great deal.

Who are the people who thought a "Hail Mary" was a reasonable step when running for the Presidency of the United States? My, god, they think so little of the position itself that it comes in second in importance to winning the race? What the hell would they have done if they had actually won? How would they have controlled her or explained her?

If this doesn't send chills down your spine, you are beyond reason.:wtf: :scared:

But, when you come down to it, it was McLame's fault for choosing her. HUGE mistake (though I'm glad he did).

On the other hand, we'd never have to worry about her running for anything had McLame NOT chosen her so...

37. grade 4 geography teaches about continents

Grade 4 | Missouri Social Studies

This course builds upon the geography skills taught in previous courses and introduces the study of continents. The student will continue his study of the five themes of geography, and learn to use longitude and latitude to find locations, distinguish between different types of maps and identify their uses, and understand the Earth’s rotation around the sun. Students will compare the population distribution and political divisions among continents, while also studying their landforms, vegetation, and resources.

This is a "beauty queen" (of her small town, that is) who then went on to be a TV reporter (LOOK AT ME!!), then into politics for yet more attention, then greeted McCain staffers in her bathrobe, flirted her way through a VP debate, and raised the roof on SNL (because that's what the cool kids like).

She's being coy about 2012 probably because she is eying the senate seat and doesn't want to telegraph that she's going to be trying to vacate the office 2/3rds of the way through in order to run for president.

The one positive thing everyone agrees on about Sarah is that she's driven. "Oh, you think I'm dumb. Ha, well, I'll show all of those people! You betcha!!"

18. All of palin's excuses sound to me like the definition of a sociopath
Profile of the Sociopath

Glibness and Superficial Charm

Manipulative and Conning
They never recognize the rights of others and see their self-serving behaviors as permissible. They appear to be charming, yet are covertly hostile and domineering, seeing their victim as merely an instrument to be used. They may dominate and humiliate their victims. (palin's acceptance speech and all of her speeches at her rallies)

Grandiose Sense of Self
Feels entitled to certain things as "their right." "I won't answers questions the way you or the audience wants me to..."

Pathological Lying
Has no problem lying coolly and easily and it is almost impossible for them to be truthful on a consistent basis. Can create, and get caught up in, a complex belief about their own powers and abilities. Extremely convincing and even able to pass lie detector tests.

Lack of Remorse, Shame or Guilt
A deep seated rage, which is split off and repressed, is at their core. Does not see others around them as people, but only as targets and opportunities. Instead of friends, they have victims and accomplices who end up as victims. (like the people she's dealt with up in Wasilly) The end always justifies the means and they let nothing stand in their way.

Shallow Emotions
When they show what seems to be warmth, joy, love and compassion it is more feigned than experienced and serves an ulterior motive. Outraged by insignificant matters, yet remaining unmoved and cold by what would upset a normal person. Since they are not genuine, neither are their promises.

Incapacity for Love

Need for Stimulation
Living on the edge. Verbal outbursts and physical punishments are normal. Promiscuity and gambling are common. (husband's business partner)

Callousness/Lack of Empathy
Unable to empathize with the pain of their victims, having only contempt for others' feelings of distress and readily taking advantage of them. (forcing her pregnant daughter into a loveless marriage for her own political aims)

Poor Behavioral Controls/Impulsive Nature
Rage and abuse, alternating with small expressions of love and approval produce an addictive cycle for abuser and abused, as well as creating hopelessness in the victim. Believe they are all-powerful, all-knowing, entitled to every wish, no sense of personal boundaries, no concern for their impact on others. ("I'm not doing this for naught..." Rapacious for 2012.)

Early Behavior Problems/Juvenile Delinquency
Usually has a history of behavioral and academic difficulties (her behavior on the high school basketball team; 6 years and 5 colleges for a BA), yet "gets by" by conning others (those at her rallies). Problems in making and keeping friends; aberrant behaviors such as cruelty to people or animals, stealing, etc. (her performance on that radio program)

Irresponsibility/Unreliability
Not concerned about wrecking others' lives and dreams (her daughter). Oblivious or indifferent to the devastation they cause. Does not accept blame themselves, but blames others, even for acts they obviously committed.

Promiscuous Sexual Behavior/Infidelity
Promiscuity, child sexual abuse, rape and sexual acting out of all sorts.

Lack of Realistic Life Plan/Parasitic Lifestyle
Tends to move around a lot or makes all encompassing promises for the future, poor work ethic but exploits others effectively.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Other Related Qualities:

Contemptuous of those who seek to understand them
Does not perceive that anything is wrong with them
Authoritarian
Secretive
Only rarely in difficulty with the law, but seeks out situations where their tyrannical behavior will be tolerated, condoned, or admired
Conventional appearance
Has an emotional need to justify their crimes and therefore needs their victim's affirmation (respect, gratitude and love)
Ultimate goal is the creation of a willing victim
Incapable of real human attachment to another
Unable to feel remorse or guilt
Extreme narcissism and grandiose
May state readily that their goal is to rule the world

80. That's the injustice of this whole thing. If Obama or Biden made such gaffes,
if either of them had two high school dropouts among their children, either of those cases would have sunk their chances of being elected. The media would have run this 25/8. Obama and Biden would have been shamed out of the race.

This campaign has moved them further and further to the fringe. They are terrified that, as the official media mouthpiece for the GOP, they could find themselves in 4 years having to defend this mental midget.

They are not being objective here. They are just trying to have a say in who they will be speaking for in 2012.

66. Of course, the Freepers don't believe a word of it.
All posters on the FR threads on the Cameron report consider it to be nothing but lies, apparently spread by hidden, secretive Romney supporters (I am not making this up). They don't believe a word of it, because they refuse to hear or acknowledge anything bad about their beloved Sarah.

What gets me about this is that the report was on Fox "News"! And it wasn't just on Fox, it was on the Bill O'Reilly show. And this wasn't a report by some liberal, it was frackin' Carl Cameron. Do you remember Carl? He was the one who put false Kerry quotes on the Fox "News" website in 2004.

So here's a report based on multiple Republican sources, presented by a highly partisan Republican journalist, on Bill O'Reilly's right-wing program, on the right-wing Fox "News" Channel, and yet these Freepers swear up and down that it's all false, simply because they don't want to hear it. Who do they trust?

And Bush. What he said was as bad, if not worse. He said "The nation of Africa" as if it were a single nation. He had no idea that there were many nations within the continent of Africa. Inexcusable for a governor and a cardinal death sin by a president. The fact that it would not disqualify Palin or Bush to the "base" is one giant clue as to what we are dealing with-IDIOTS! These people are too stupid to reason with! We allowed an idiot to start a preemptive war over nothing while his minions and the media cheered him on. The American people and the media should be deeply ashamed. Of course millions of us knew it all along.

Africa is a Continent - Well, they just need to take some of that Pepto stuff, you know!

European - Hey, I'm not likin' this potty humor.

Antarctica - Isn't she married to Uncle Ted?

Russia - It's that little bump on the horizon when I look out my attic window.

Chile - I went there once, back in the 70's. I brought a whole buncha sweaters and stuff, and it turned out to be pretty warm down there!

San Marino - The best football player never to win a Super Bowl, you betcha!

Benin - That means that you've visited the place, as in, "I've Benin Iraq...er, Kuwait."

Kyrgystan - Alright, now you're just makin' stuff up!

Lebanon - A woman who likes other women.

Chad - That's what Karl Rove has in a bunch of boxes marked "Florida 2000" in his attic.

Eritrea - a country in Northeast Africa. It is bordered by Sudan in the west, Ethiopia in the south, and Djibouti in the southeast. The east and northeast of the country have an extensive coastline on the Red Sea, directly across from Saudi Arabia and Yemen. The Dahlak Archipelago and several of the Hanish Islands are part of Eritrea. Increasing unrest and resistance in Eritrea against the federation with Ethiopia eventually led to a decision by the Ethiopian government to annex Eritrea as its 14th province in 1962. An Eritrean independence movement formed in the early 1960s which later erupted into a 31-year long civil war against successive Ethiopian governments that ended in 1991. Following a UN supervised referendum in Eritrea dubbed UNOVER in which the Eritrean people overwhelmingly voted for independence from Ethiopia, Eritrea declared its independence and gained international recognition in 1993. Eritrea's constitution, adopted in 1997, stipulates that the state is a presidential republic with a unicameral parliamentary democracy. The constitution, however, has not yet been implemented fully due, according to the government, to the prevailing border conflict with Ethiopia which began in May 1998.

FOX feeds off the religious contingent of the Republican Party.
FOX just put a little touch of poison in that feed.
FOX takes orders from the White House.

Therefore, the White House must have told FOX to finish her off because she won't be needed in 2012?
They are saying forget the religious contingent for now because they'll find better bait?

????????

And more to come? She's on the ground and they are going to kick her some more?

FOX was told to build her.
Now destroy her?
Fox, the loyal propaganda arm of the White House?
Cheney just kicked the religious right a good one?
We'll get a clue of what's going on when Dobson comments.

Edited on Thu Nov-06-08 09:37 AM by DrZeeLit
They love to repeat and repeat that we have freedom of the press; and that the press is the guardian of our rights.
Republicans especially like to deride the press while touting our freedoms and rights. They never let up on "the press" and how mean and horrible and critical the press is -- to them.
But... they were all complicit in this sham.
What? If she got elected would it be "our little secret"? Laughing behind closed doors that they all -- press and GOP -- pulled one over on those stupid liberals?
Talk about "Gotcha Journalism"!

If they hadn't lost, would all this garbage about Palin ever been reported?

They are right -- but they need to get it right. We do have "freedom of the press" -- but with that freedom, as with all the other freedoms, comes deep responsibility.

Who held this story? Who made the decision to tell it now?

Just when I thought I couldn't be more disgusted.....

By the time she did that interview the bounce was evening out, and Obama would have gotten the same type of boosts out of the debates, crisis or not. The crisis helped him, but this was going to be a big win for Obama either way. Maybe not quite as big, but big.

116. Remember
This is information thats coming from people that need someone to blame to still have a job in the business.

The more they can blame this on her the better.

She did plant the seeds for accepting stuff like this - but I do have some reservation about taking this at face value.

117. FReepers Trashing Fox News!
A few golden quotes:

"Screw Fox and the horse they rode in on. I haven’t watched or read Fox news in over a year. The quality of their reporting is positively high school."

"Fox also called FR a hate site. Screw them."

"I saw it on FOX also... they also said more was going to be put out about Palin in coming days.... Too HELL W/U FOX!!!"

"It will be sometime before I watch Fox News again. They really show where they stand. Shep Smith is such a low life."

"why is any conservative watching Fox News? they aren’t conservative..."

And if you think I am a sore winner, you should have heard all the hate spewing out of the Kitsap County Republican Party Chair while I did election observing and he would not shut up. I reported it to the election officials of course, but dangit I shared a few of my own precious words as well. Folks that want to harm this country, be they foreign or domestic, your time is over. We are going to shape a better America.
