Lansky was deported from Israel for his past crime ties to organized crime in the U.S. and his gambling operations in Cuba. At one point, Lansky was just about the most powerful gangster in America, but his empire fell when Castro assumed control of Cuba.

I found it amazing that Lansky was born in Russia under Tsar Nicholas II and died in the U.S. under Ronald Reagan ... and he avoid jail under both.
