2. USA! USA!

Every time I hear that Lee Greenwood song, I think of David Cross saying to Greenwood: "you'd gladly stand up next to me? OK, motherf*cker, here's your gun, the next plane for Iraq leaves from over there. Here's your big chance!"

I guess there is no point in explaining the difference between honoring soldiers', sailors', and marines' honor, valour, sacrifice, and good works, and thinking strategically about the larger goals of the country. Surely this poor soul has heard of such a thing as a Pyrrhic victory? A war of attrition? The cost of a military engagement being more than its benefit?

Yada yada yada, I know, you can't reason with people. The "we are the empire" mentality has them under its spell.

3. Everytime I hear Greenwood's song I think about being in the Army

AFTER Taps they played it. The first week (this went on for months) we all weren't exactly sure what to do.

Finally someone said "Do we have to stand at parade rest for this bullshit?"

Slowly the song became a joke to us. It was time to get a head start on doing stuff while all the morons stood listening to it like it was the national anthem or something
