3. My Neighbors!

The late Maury Maverick, Jr., lived a couple of streets over from me. He and Terrelita grew up in the neighborhood. The Mavericks are a fascinating family, still very nonconformist. I don't know of any other family that has contributed TWO words to the English language. Aside from "maverick," there is the term "gobbledegook," which was coined by Maury Maverick Sr. while in the U.S. Congress.

Incidentally, if yard signs on my street are any indication, our neighborhood is 86% for Obama. I think they Mavericks would be proud!
