Rachel Maddow discusses John McCain's condescending and insensitive remark about women's health made during the final Presidential debate.

Yet another example of McCain's misogynist attitudes. He is opposed to equal pay for equal work and wants to overturn Roe vs. Wade, a radical position that even most moderates and independents disagree with.

2. Thanks for posting this. I missed the exchange last night as I attempted to explain Roe v. Wade
to my son.

5. Teach your children well!
My fourteen year old daughter is appalled by the McCain-Palin position on abortion. For her generation in particular, these archaic ideas on women's rights are so offensive.

6. After the debate my 17 year old heard Andrea Mitchell proclaim McCain the clear winner
Edited on Thu Oct-16-08 04:05 PM by Feeney2
and asked me if she even watched the debate. And I said I attempted to explain Roe v Wade because I couldn't remember which name was which. So teaching my children at this point means they may be teaching me. I don't have daughters but It's nice to hear 14 year olds are paying attention. McCain wins and they have their young adulthood with him as Pres. Not a pleasant thought for women.

3. When did "eloquent" become something negative?
Is McCain really that insensitive? Women's health should be important to EVERYONE!

Eloquence is a very positive thing. It grates on me every time shrub butchers the english language, especially when he says nuke-ya-ler. It is refreshing to have a presidential contender that comes off as smart. When I hear Obama use a word that I don't understand, I actually ENJOY going to the dictionary to look it up. I also like the fact that when Obama uses big words and it doesn't sound like he just learned them on his word of the day calendar. I want my president to be smarter than you, me, and everyone with whom he might be communicating or negotiating. It really stacks the cards in our favor.

McCain uses eloquence as something to hammer Obama on, and that to me is just plain dumb.

4. As Obama said sometime back...
'It's like they pride themselves in ignorance.'

Ignorance, a lack of a basic command of the English language (as we've seen with Sarah Palin) and hate speech are "patriotic!"

I don't know what America those people are living in, but in OUR United States, we value education and celebrate diversity.

7. I've been accused of being a language snob....
but I don't care.

Like you (and tons of other people), I want the people in positions higher than my own to actually sound like they deserve to be there.

John McCain used the word "eloquent" against Obama last night like it was a compilation of the most nasty four-letter words he could find.

I'm so tired of seeing verbal agility being slammed by those bozos like it's some fatal venereal disease

8. "eloquent" is the new "articulate"
and the old "that mean man is smarter than me - no fair!"
