*Edit* I am not going to claim that McCain refused to shake Obama's hand until I get confirmation on it.

1. It's amazing how people see what they want to see, or don't see what they don't
It was blatantly obvious that they were shaking hands before idiot Brokaw stopped them. Granted, McCain should have taken it again, and then maybe introduced Cindy, but they had already shaken hands at this point.

5. I am not invested in McCain shaking or not shaking Obama's hand, so I hope you are referring to
someone else here.

I heard this on the radio this morning and am now seeing the video and it doesn't look like there is an obstruction for the two to shake hands, and as you said, McCain could have still done so afterwards. Let's face it--Obama beat him last night and I am sure that McCain was pissed.

6. He's a grumpy, old man with a lifetime's worth of failed ideas.
There's no question that his civility has left the building, while his aspirations of increased power go down in flames.

7. Even after all this, I feel sorry for him
I just do. I don't have to agree with what someone is doing to feel sorry for them.

9. Whenever I watch a sporting event, I always feel sorry for the loser
I just know how competitive some people are and how they seem to value themselves in terms of whether they win or lose and what a delusion that is. So I pity them.

12. It's hard to feel sorry for someone whose conduct has contributed to...
...and continues to play a part in the pain, suffering, and death of thousands of innocent human beings. IMHO, those with innocent blood on their hands deserve no sympathy.

13. You may be right, but compassion doesn't have to be deserved
There is this movie called "Rain" based upon a short story by Somerset Maugham and it stars Lesley Howard and Joan Crawford. At the end of the movie, Joan says: "I feel sorry for the whole world." That's how I feel. I liked Hillary before the primaries and then became turned off by certain tactics but it still didn't stop me from feeling compassion for her.

10. They did shake hands after the debate.
It was about the time that the moderator told them to get out of the way of his precious teleprompter.
Obama offered his hand to McCain once again when the mingling started and was denied. The only thing that was missing was McOutOfTouch saying "Psych!" I was hoping for Obama to offer up the good ol' "terrorist fist bump."

What was even more telling was the fact that Johnny Mac took the very first opportunity to get the heck out of dodge. Obama hung back for a while and chatted with the audience without that old guy hovering. He got to be personable with the crowd without the pressure of a televised debate; and as an added bonus, he had lots and lots of great photo ops.

11. Yes, here is confirmation of that very clearly, thanks to TPM TV

What I don't understand is what that other footage was from. Clearly it's not related to the actual handshake shown in this link.
