Deb Riechmann, an Associated Press White House correspondent, tried at the end of an Oval Office photo session Wednesday with Bush and President Martin Torrijos of Panama.

It went like this, as noted by Ken Herman of Cox Newspapers:

"With all due respect," she said, "you haven't taken any questions since Aug. 6."

"I can't hear what you said," Bush responded.

"This way please, through the Rose Garden," a White House press aide said, trying to cut off the dialogue.

The president added: "You got to speak with a louder voice. I can't hear you. I'm old."
