1. According the The Economist:
"South Ossetia is a tiny patchwork of villages—Georgian and South Ossetian—which was easy to drag into a war. It is headed by a thuggish former Soviet official, Eduard Kokoity, and run by the Russian security services. It lives off smuggling and Russian money."

4. But, but... McBush needs to drum up a new cold war
in time to scare the sheeple. Can't let power slip out of the hands of the benevolent rulers, now can we?

6. But don't you know, they're all Russians
Just like Chechians, Ukrainians, Latvians, Estonians, Lithuanians, Belarus, Georgians, Azers, Armenians, Kazakhs, Uzbeks and Tajiks.

To name a few.

5. I love Caucasus melodies
However, if you're going to use the no blood for oil theme, at least make it universal.

The pipeline from Azerbaijan through Georgia does not run through South Ossetia. The reason this is seen by some (and that includes me) as a war for oil is because Russia is attempting to establish the primacy of its home-grown oil industry by eliminating the competition in Georgia. Independence for South Ossetia may be a worthy cause, but its a red herring in this war. It is a smoke screen the Russians are using to disguise imperialist designs.

What we have here is a nation with an odious imperial history mistaking it for past glory, like so many formerly imperialist powers. Russia is attempting to solve its problems by keeping its neighbors impoverished and subjugated.

No blood for oil! Hear, hear! Russian soldiers should not have to die in order to make their crooked oil oligarchs more wealthy or for the glory of Tsar Putin I, who's a pretty good imitation of Stalin in his own right. He's a better one than Saakashvili, and Saakashvili is no saint and even less a wonder of wisdom.
