2. Egads. Are these designers completely incopetent or criminal?

When you see things like this, it makes you wonder how anybody could possibly overlook such an obvious flaw.

I wouldn't be concerned about stuffing the box while the polls are open, There should be witnesses and controls to make that fairly unlikely. But what about all the time the machine is unattended as it is moved from the polling station to election HQ? It would be so easy for the driver to stuff hundreds of ballots in there. You could do that if 10 seconds if you practiced a little.

I certainly hope that election managers have procedures to remove the ballots and put them in a tamper-evident package under the watch of witnesses before the ballots leave the polling place.

8. You're right that stuffing the box is...

impossible while polls are open, largely because the magic slot is easy to fix. There was another hilarious video showing someone passing by and slipping a ballot in the printer slot, thinking that was a way to stuff it.

And we actually do remove the ballots, verify them, and sort them into secure envelopes by ED, just as we always do with absentee, provisional, and other odd ballots. (Can you guess what DOES go into the box before the machine is closed, secured, and sealed?)

I keep saying that before people sound off they should realize that BoE's are not universally run by ignoramuses who require the advice of election activists in order to do their jobs.

3. so what are the choices?

the diebold with it's vote switching devises in prominent dem areas or this or the lever?

How about we put a few dollars toward election security and have the entire process videotaped from start to finish on each machine and the tapes get feed via live feed to a voting protection staff who can monitor everything live and have the tapes to review later?

I'm no rocket scientist, but it seems like if they wanted to secure our right to vote and have the votes counted, they...could. try, at least.
