Barack Obama tells supporters in Hawaii that the "Aloha spirit" is one of caring for those in need and that diversity is a strength.

"What's on the surface, what people look like, that doesn't determine who they are. And that the power and strength of diversity, the ability of people from everywhere...they're just Americans. All of us can work together and join together to create a better country," Obama said.

Obama is taking a few days off from the campaign to spend time in Hawaii with his family, including his grandmother who lives there.

3. It's about CHANGE.
The Senate is in recess. How many times have you heard a stump speech from Hawaii? The people in those swing states have youtube too. Doesn't Hawaii matter? He's been campaigning hard and he wants to visit his family. Hawaii is a great place to relax and take a break from the drudgery of a campaign. But he doesn't actually stop campaigning! He takes an opportunity to make a stump speech anyway. I think it's a wonderful testament to his tenacity and fortitude. He's working hard and so are his staffers. Send him $5 and maybe you can get to meet him in Colorado.

6. Vacation, the meaning of..........
If he went to Florida, he would not be on vacation now would he? He is in Hawaii, because that's where he grew up. He is not trying to garner votes on his VACATION!!!!

Edited on Sat Aug-09-08 08:05 AM by quantass
seems like a polite thing to do and goes with his theme of the 50-state strategy...
now he can begin his R&R

12. You're right. This has to be the first presidential stump speech given in Hawaiian history...
... I think a lot of Mainland people have no concept how great that must feel to the locals, plus they are bursting with pride already because how cool is it that someone from this small place is going to be President of the US.

I notice in some of the beach-run photos he's got his shoes on -- then it's like he remembers where he is and off they come. :-)

9. He came for the plate lunch...!
http://starbulletin.com/2008/08/08/news/story01.html

<snip>
He told the crowd that his trip to Oahu is mostly for vacation, to visit his tutu, relax, adding that he plans to get a plate lunch. "I might go to Zippy's. I might go to Rainbow Drive-in. I haven't decided yet.
<end>

Zippy's is really good, but Rainbow Drive-In is the GREATEST!!!!
