The tragic killing of two people and the wounding of eight others at the Tennessee Valley Unitarian Universalist Church in Knoxville allegedly because of the church's "liberal views" brought up a discussion of hate crime laws on Fox News this week that I analyze in this video.

The four clips in my video come from the July 28, 2008, broadcasts of the Fox News programs "The Live Desk" (showing anchor Jane Skinner and criminal defense attorney Drew Findling) and "Studio B With Shepard Smith" (showing criminal defense attorneys Julia Morrow and Arthur Aidala). 1. Fox News is a hate crime

and obviously, so was this politically motivated murder.

3. That first attorney was full of it

The nutcase chose the UU Church. He didn't go to the local Baptist Church, or the Jehovah's Witness Kingdom Hall. This was a crime against a particular religious institution. I don't believe in the death penalty, so I don't want the jury to condemn the fool to death--but I do hope they incarcerate him for the rest of his life.

4. Even if you supported the death penalty...

that's exactly what this (alleged) murderer wants. Let him rot in prison for the rest of his life. Let him stare at walls and receive hate mail for the next twenty years, reminding him of how badly he fucked up.

Far better and more just punishment.

5. Here is a second thought on hate crime statutes

I know the hate crime laws. I serve on the Hate Crimes Task Force for Los Angeles County. And this is just fantasy but I just had this thought. The right wing keeps saying that Secular Humanism is a religion. Mitt Romney said it was in his famous "Kennedyesque" speech. He also said it should not be allowed. (WTF??)

OK Here is a chance to prove it. Secular Humanism IS a religion. And therefore ergo is a protected class. I agree with all the right wing nut bags. Secular Humanism IS a religion so don't commit a crime against me or I'll file hate crime charges to boot because you committed a crime against me because of my SECULAR HUMANISM RELIGION. :evilgrin:
