Misrepresenting him: Seems to be contagious. Give them hell, Mr. Gore and don't allow them to break your focus. Seems all people in the governments of Canada and this country want to do is make this a partisan political issue rather than a moral one. It's good that Mr. Gore is setting them all straight. And in this video of an appearance he made on CBC last June, he proves Baird a liar.

Al Gore says Canada's Tories misrepresented him
The Associated Press
Published: February 12, 2007

OTTAWA: Former U.S. Vice President Al Gore is taking Canada's Conservative government to task for suggesting he endorsed its performance on climate change. The environmentalist, filmmaker and past presidential candidate issued a statement Monday to distance himself from the claim by the government of Conservative Prime Minister Stephen Harper."I understand that last week Canada's minister of the environment, John Baird, mischaracterized comments I made last summer as praise for the Harper government's actions on global warming," Gore wrote. "The comments I made were designed to encourage the Harper government not to abandon Canada's tradition of fighting above its weight class on the world stage as part of the Kyoto process," Gore said. "It is my experience that other nations do look to Canada for moral leadership. ... I urge the Harper government to do the right thing."

Against Gore's urging, the Conservative government has abandoned Canada's greenhouse-gas reduction commitments under the Kyoto Protocol, rejecting its targets as unattainable. The government has instead called for a series of other programs to fight global warming. In the House of Commons, Baird has habitually responded to opposition questions by reading out statements ridiculing the Liberals' record on climate change. Last week, he read out a purported endorsement from Gore."Canada (is) once again providing leadership in the world, fighting above its weight class and showing moral authority to the rest of the world. That's what Canada's known for," Baird read. "Do we know who said that yesterday? Al Gore."

Gore said his statement was taken out of context, adding it was made last summer, not last week. However, the government circulated a transcript from a Global TV interview that aired last week in which Gore said: "My friends in Canada tell me that across party lines, and in all regions, there is very strong support for Canada once again providing leadership in the world, fighting above its weight class and showing moral authority to the rest of the world."The Conservatives have accused the Liberals of failing to reduce greenhouse gas emissions during their nearly 13 years in power, before being toppled a year ago .Under the Kyoto accord, Canada pledged to cut its emissions by 6 percent from 1990 levels by 2012. But the country's emissions are now more than 30 percent above 1990 levels."I saw the movie from Mr. Gore — it was called 'An Inconvenient Truth,'" Tory MP Mark Warawa replied. "The inconvenient truth for Liberal members is that they did absolutely nothing."

5. Well, good for you. But that is not the focus of this thread.
I know how hard it is for some to even contemplate really discussing the environment because it really is boring to them unless they can tie some sort of political thread to it regarding Mr. Gore. However, he is focused on it as I and many others are because this planet is in a state of emergency regarding its climate, and in the case of Canada, they are going the WRONG WAY. It will therefore be up to the people in Canada specifically Alberta as it is to US HERE to build momentum for change to mitigate the predicted .02 increase in temperature per decade that we will face now that the CO2 and other GHGs we have been spewing into the air with abandon since the Industrial Revolution are now making their presence known while governments continue to appease their addictions for profit at this planet's expense. And Mr. Gore is a global inspiration now, and we should be grateful for it. So, you will excuse me if I don't feel particularly interested in talking about "nominations" in this thread, and judging by the response Mr. Gore gives here, that wasn't his focus either.

CALGARY - Former U.S. vice-president Al Gore, whose criticisms of the oilpatch have raised the ire of many in Alberta, will travel to Calgary in April to speak on the growing threat of climate change.

Gore will specifically address his award-winning documentary film An Inconvenient Truth - which says the biggest threat facing the world is global warming - when he speaks on April 23rd.

He blames the use of carbon-based fuels, such as oil and coal, as the leading factor for climate change.

Last year, Gore accused the oil industry of financially backing the federal Conservatives and their ''ultra-conservative leader,'' Stephen Harper, to protect its stake in Alberta's lucrative oilsands.

Gore also targeted the oilsands in an issue of Rolling Stone magazine, saying that ''for every barrel of oil they extract there, they have to use enough natural gas to heat a family's home for four days. And they have to tear up four tonnes of landscape.''

Going to those lengths for oil ''is truly nuts,'' he said. ''But you know, junkies find veins in their toes.''

6. So the Tories accuse the Liberals of doing nothing - so their...
solution is to reject Kyoto and do nothing also? Well, if they want to be consistent with their masters at BushCo, they are on the right track here!!!

7. Their answer is to tear the Boreal Forest apart...
http://water-is-life.blogspot.com/2006/08/oil-sands-development-not-sustainable.html

For greed, with Bush's help. And as I disclosed in the entry above, the oil sands contain bitumen which is 83.2% carbon. Burning two million barrels of that a day is nuts... and it is an addiction.
