Your Daily Politics Video Blog: In the past week John McCain and his surrogates have done their best to focus the entire McCain-Obama debate on the question of which candidate was right about the troop surge in Iraq. So it was a little surprising to see McCain on the CBS Evening News last night get a basic historical fact about the surge so plainly wrong.

1. I like the way that...
...when Bush reads, he sounds like he's reading a bedtime story to little children.

3. "the surge" is mcAncient's only hope......
If reality shows that the surge did NOT accomplish what it was set out to accomplish, if reality shows that the Anwar sheiks were not totally pulled out of the gutter by the surge, if reality shows that the whole occupation of Iraq was not saved by "the surge", this crazy old coot looses all credibility...as if he hasn't already.

Facts appear to be that NO POLITICAL progress was made while the surge took place = the intent of the surge as I remember, the Anwar "awakening" had taken place months before we even suggested sending in more troops (aka "the surge"), and the surge did offer the region stability but the actual decision by the warring sheiks to take on and rid themselves of the Al Queda forces was what reduced the violence and routed the extremists from the region.

mcAncient is a crazy old fart, and I was to spit beer in his face when I see that gloating smirk on his face as though "I've been telling you all along how I was right...blah, blah, blah" America is too f*cking stupid to connect the dots, and our grand media is keeping them in the dark. Folks like couric and co. need to be horsewhipped for their disservice to this country and freedom of the press.

4. Okay...here's my understanding...
1) The "surge" took place months after the "Anwar awakening".

2) The entire goal for the "surge" was to suppress violence in order to allow for a political solution--which never happened.

3) The "surge" was only effective to suppress violence in specific areas where more US troop were moved to and did nothing to stop the overall violent insurgent activity in the region.

4) Al Queda forces make up only 2% of the insurgents in Iraq.

5) McCain is a lier, a stooge and a dangerous idiot.
