3. I don't know why the Christian right isn't up in arms against Viagra
After all, if God intended old men to enjoy having sex, would there be a problem? Isn't Viagra an abomination of some kind?

9. Correct me if I'm wrong...
...but isn't 'birth control' something that MEN can also participate in?

(HINT: condoms, vasectomy)

I realize that the point was that McCain doesn't believe women should have choices but men should have Viagra..

But it takes at least two to tango, if you get me drift.

19. I'm sure some health care insurance policies cover vasectomies, just as some policies cover the pill
Some health insurance policies DO cover birth control, but they don't have to if they don't want to.

Men should rightfully be annoyed at not having condoms covered by insurance. You'd think that husbands would be irritated that their family planning isn't covered, and I'm sure most of them are. Very few extremists are against health insurance for birth control, ruining it for everyone else. This can't be a popular move for McCain.

12. I must respond
I spent over 5 years fighting my last employer over the birth control issue. We went all the way to a federal appeals court in ST Louis that had 2 conservative judges and 1 liberal judge who dissented. The judges claimed that covering birth control was not discrimination because it is not offered to men. We claimed that men could not get pregnant and still lost. One of the judges went as far as to say that 'all of the pregnant women he knew enjoyed being pregnant'. I wonder if he ever asked them how they felt in their ninth month? The next step was the supreme court and we decided to end the fight. It is next to impossible to fight for reproductive rights when the judicial branch is loaded with conservative judges. I still practice planned parenthood. I won't ever have sex with a republican.

17. The only thing I could think of is maybe Medicare?
I have no idea what's covered or not covered under it BTW and I am by no means defending O'Reilly (obviously). Besides, that's a small percentage of total insurance in America anyway.

Men get pecker perk covered by insurance and women don't get birth control.

The fight continues.

21. Not that I would ever defend O'Reilly...
Edited on Wed Jul-23-08 03:24 PM by TN al
... and I certainly had no personal knowledge of this before yesterday, but my pharmacist told me that viagra is not covered by my insurance plan and what is more most plans do not cover it. Stupid Republicans need to stop trying to come up with reasons for the disparity and point out that the questions premise is incorrect. By the way, if one or two of you reply to this and tell me that viagra is covered and that I am an idiot or whatever the insult of the day is today, I will ignore you and chalk up your responses to anecdotal evidence. However if a long list of you tell me that you are covered by viagra then I will take it up with my employer.

26. Sorry. I got a sick feeling as I typed that.
I just had to click 'post' to get it off the screen.

I find it hard to believe that people actually listen to this man and take him seriously. It speaks volumes about the state of American political culture that people are willing to have things simplified and facts corrupted in such a way, just so that they can fit things into their worldview.

What this man concludes here is the logical opposite of where his own argument would rationally end, yet he says it with the conviction of a man secure in the infallibility of his opinion. He takes the facts, chews them up, removing the indigestible burrs of reason and regurgitates them, like a mother vulture spitting up carrion pulp into the waiting mouths of its nestlings.

27. Actually, birth control IS used to treat some medical conditions, not for birth control
I wish somebody would bring that up. No need to go into detail about it, but its used for legitimate medical conditions more often than viagra is.

Excellent point!
(not to mention the fact that pregnancy resulting from not using the pill is a medical condition too!)
