1. Which commanders might that be?
The political ass-kissers ones or the ones on the ground with the troops.

Definitely a valid and important question . . . and carefully omitted.

It's been pretty obvious commanders, past and present, are of two totally different cloths!
An astonishing amount of the professional military officers have either resigned or retired. Those that remain appear to be "yes" men interested primarily in climbing the career ladder.

2. Show some sensibility and skill? Zip it, Mitchell. Are these
supposed commanders telling the dim one, or Maliki, that there can't be any set timetable?

And have they thought through the possibilities of getting out, or are they spouting wh talking points?

I'll wait to hear someone without the built-in spin that you have, thanks anyway.

3. Sounds like White House talking points to me.
The president sets the mission. If Obama wants the troops out in 16 months, it's up to the commanders to find a responsible, safe way to make that happen. The flexibility I see is maybe it will take 18 months instead of 16. Or it could take less time to withdraw.

6. Yes, and Obama, as CIC, will be setting the agenda, not the
commanders. I have no doubt he'll be listening to them, but he wants a different outcome. Or maybe not; just because Andrea says something doesn't make it so.

4. It's not their call. All Obama will want from them is a cheery 'aye, aye'!
Edited on Sat Jul-19-08 10:11 AM by MookieWilson
The Bush White House did not listen to them when they were against invading Iraq and the Obama Administration will not listen to them when they protest leaving Iraq.

5. She just said every Bush talking point we have heard for the last 4 years
How many of you think that she really talked to the commanders on the ground
and not a political liaison officer?

You know her husband is the cause of our economic troubles
and has a fake doctorate of economics?

7. From GW's mouth to her ear? Would Bob Gates, Petraus or any
high ranking career military personnel or for that matter even a Condi Rice divulge this kind of deal breaker information to Andrea Mitchell or NBC? Fox News and the right wing media (Washington times, etc.) have had a remarkable impact on so-called mainstream journalism during the previous seven years. It is now acceptable to use conjecture from a two hour luncheon with someone from the Bush Administration as repeatable "facts." Mitchell does not cite a source, does not specify names of military personnel and does not indicate why they are focusing on Obama. I can get dressed up, go to a five star restaurant and blabber with one of my friends too about some nonsense and then pretend that I have a "very reliable" source in the Administration. She has as much credibility as her nutjob husband-who likes to wear women's undergarments. See Andrea I can spread blather too.

10. Too damned bad
I guess it's easy enough for these commanders to seek to shine their medals, not having to be in any danger themselves but instead sending out the troops to do the dirty dangerous work, but face it...we can't say this enough...they've had FIVE YEARS to get the job done, and that's quite enough. I blame the policy, and those commanders who weren't able to finish. The troops have always done an outstanding job, despite these roadblocks.

As Obama said: According to the Bush administration and John McCain, when it's violent over there, we can't leave. When it's peaceful over there, we can't leave. When CAN we leave???

The commanders will just have to do what the CiC tells them to do. And that will be Obama.

11. We'll take the commanders that...
...resign their commission out of principle over those that suck up to this bunch.

Of course, the real answer to the question of 'just who are these commanders', is that they are the ones charged with providing security for Obama's trip...and Blackwater is on the payroll of the repugs.
