I never did figure out what bush did to cause the tears. Maybe she just did not like the smell of sulfur that surrounds him.

23. Many children are more sensitive than adults
and can sense when someone is not a good person. I had Nixon nailed when I was six years old (when he was running against Kennedy).

24. I was not into politics at that age, or even in my teens
(which I was when Nixon ran against Kennedy) but I have always been able to sense evil in people. When I was a child, my mother would laugh when people would go to her and ask why I didn't like them. She would ask them what their last reaction was with me, and then tell them that I was a sensitive child and when they did something to hurt/disappoint me, I basically wrote them off. She always told them that there was nothing that she could do about it. I was taught to be respectful of my elders, but when I felt someone was not a good person, I kept my distance from them, was not rude, just distant. And my mother was right, there was not much she could or would do to make me change my reactions to these people.

26. While waiting for the bus, in the backseat of a '61 VW
I heard Nixon on the car radio. Normally a very quiet child, I spoke up and said, that's a very bad, bad man. The adult in the car asked me why I had said that. I simply replied, because he is.

Fast forward twelve years. As I stood in front of a lever voting machine for the 1st time, I was ecstatic to pull that lever for George McGovern and against that very bad, bad man.

August 9, 1974 was a very good day for me.

that went up in my neighborhood when Nixon announced his resignation! I still get giddy when I recall that night! I hope to see that again, very very soon with some other folks!

29. Don't you remember when you were a kid?
It didn't look like she was that "afraid" of anyone. She probably just saw other kids and wanted to go play with them. Who would want to hang around with a bunch of stuffy old grown-ups when there were other kids playing nearby?
