A personal declaration to boycott petrol as much as humanly possible in my daily transportation and how this having a man take a piss only a few feet away from you is still a more satisfying experience than the Geography of Nowhere - American suburbia.

1. Thanks for sharing. I'd much rather deal with downtown than suburban Generica.

3. Thanks. Yeah, I have to deal with a true character from time to time
Edited on Sun Jul-13-08 05:26 PM by drexel dave
but conversely, I've met a whole lot more really cool people, and heard story after story after story. With public transport, individuals become real people again. It's fantastic. I'll be relaying more of these stories soon, as time allows.

Take care, and keep on fighting the good fight.

And if you've got the time and inclination, please rate my video on youtube, and subscribe if you can.

Peace,

DD

4. plus, if we're honest about it, sustaining suburbia means sustaining empire
because suburbia IS our empire.

What a tragic comedy.

Peace,

DD

5. I went almost 5 years without a car...

....and still wouldn't have one, were it not a req. of my job - and supplied by the company. It was easy - much easier than you'd think, although my residence is rather well situated. EASY walking distance to 3 grocery stores (now 2, thanks to Wally World crowding one out), a couple of smaller malls and a large one......and about a 20 minute walk from downtown.

I heartily applaud this initiative!

On edit: our transit system isn't the greatest, as it has to serve a suburban-to-rural area and the streets are a gigantic plate of linguini as well, but one thing for which I have to give the system some props: bike racks. All buses have bike carriers on them, so the transit system is now more usable and accessible to more people.

Also....unlimited use monthly passes. A great thing for frequent riders. $50

7. Dude- last month i bought a beautiful old Panasonic DX-2000 for $20!
at the beginning of July i purchased a 30 day Metro pass for $60 and rarely sit in my car anymore. the bus and light-rail have bike racks.

it costs me $40 to fill my ten gallon tank so filling it once a week is $160 a month...

fuck the car!

10. While I don't share your affection for public pissers....
I bike everywhere and don't own a car anymore.

Traffic in my city is bad, and I get where I'm going faster than motorists 7 times out of 10. I laugh at them as I whiz past. Plus, I get much needed exercise.

I have a Specialized Sirrus, a 'city bike' as it is billed, and I move plenty fast on my machine without harming anyone or anything. Plus, I have legs of steel and stamina to spare as a result.

Fuck oil! Get a bike.
