1. 33s left:"Dude that was completely unnecessary." "I agree with you, but...
"...it was cool though."

That is so fucked.

2. So I wonder who destroyed it, and why.
All I see is a mosque, an explosion, and less mosque. All the important bits, the parts that make the video mean something (apart from the fact of a mosque's partial demolition), are missing.

US demolishing a mosque full of women and children?

A mosque being destroyed because of structural defects?

Saddam's government imploding a mosque so they can built a grander one?

Sunnis wiping out a mosque that they object to?

Shi'ites destroying a mosque that has often been used as a bunker for shooting RPGs at passing vehicles?

So many options, and no information. Except that somebody took the time to video it. Perhaps to record the event for confirmation, perhaps to use the event as propaganda, perhaps for some other reason. Again, so many options ...

4. "A mosque being destroyed because of structural defects?" interesting take...
but i don't think we're talking rural mosque renewal here, we; the u.s. of a, are certainly some of the only, if not the only entity in the neighborhood capable to raining down any such...conclusions

7. You're right.
I should have listened to the audio. It would have ruled out a lot of options.

Then I'd know it was obviously some Americans destroying a mosque because they're on a Crusade to spread Catholicism to Muslim dirt. Because they did say why they destroyed it, right? (I assume that was encoded in there somewhere.)

Still ... I wonder why it was destroyed. Think of it as an exercise in critical thinking: We have what appears to be an implicit proposal that it was done to destroy Islam as part of a Crusade, I guess. What is the evidence for it? What other alternative explanations could there be, and what is the evidence for them? (Hint for devising one possible alternative explanation: Under what circumstances is it permissible under the Geneva Conventions to destroy a mosque, even with people inside it?)

9. well yes, but you are right enough...
still, and without addressing for a moment the efforts the bush admin & rumsfeld pentagon have taken to circumvent articles of Geneva for what may be activity just such as this; we remain the only force delivering, certainly what appear to be laser guided ordnance see ama's post below where they/someone dropped the minaret as well, very precise

it could be reckoned by the vid that the area certainly appears sparse and perhaps nobody wanted the mosque anymore, but i still wonder if rural mosque renewal is part of the overall mission statement

sadder still, we may never know what has been really going on over there for years yet to come

8. It was destroyed because it was there
and as the soldier declares "these guys still wanna fuck with us." No bravery, just hollow cries of triumph. Wooo hooo.

11. Not even Saddam...
Would have not been even dumb enough to blow up mosques to atom dust.

These troops are committing war crimes under the orders of their fascist commander-in-chief!
