1. Supposedly if you put a blue tinted license plate cover over your plates
cameras have a difficult time reading them

8. well, then I'll do that
I always get the feeling I'm being watched or taped, no matter where I am. I hate "them" being able to track what I do. Who knows if they can figure out the "dissenters" on the internets and keep tabs on you?

2. Similar cameras have been in use in Europe
for some years. Most common use is too check average speeds of cars on motorways. If the average exceeds the limit between consecutive cameras the speeding ticket had been printed and is ready for posting within minutes. I understand what you mean about Big Brother but overall it has no bearing on the innocent.

3. Not now
But the possibility for abuse is very high. If a database of stolen cars can be entered, so could a database of war protesters, liberals, environmentalists, bloggers, etc. OK, I am a bit paranoid, but if I'm thinking this, for sure someone else is.

5. Neither does the Patriot Act,
or so the logic goes. I am very opposed to this kind of thing. The government has no right to monitor my travels, and I want to keep it that way. In similar big brother news, I have heard states with EZpass are starting to issue tickets to drivers who make it between booths too quickly.

7. That was the original use
in France some years ago - tickets were waiting to be handed to drivers at the next toll booth.

4. in london you have to pay a charge to drive in the centre of town
during the day and similar cameras are used to check whether you have paid or not. Its very efficient as I know to my cost having been caught out on a couple of occasions. The worrying thing is the charge is applicable between 7:30Am and 6PM (or something similar) but the fixed cameras are operating 24/7 and I believe the police as well as the charging body have access to the data.

whilst the charge has reduced traffic and made the city a nicer place to walk around I am extremely concerned about the way that these systems evolve from a good thing into something more sinister.
