Truckers protest gas prices in Washington, D.C.

http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/2008-04-28-truckers-gas-prices_N.htm

WASHINGTON (AP) — Horns blaring, truck drivers began arriving in Washington to protest high gasoline prices.

The group, Truckers and Citizens United, plans to circle the National Mall on Monday before parking at RFK Stadium. From there, they will march and take shuttles to the Capitol, where a rally is scheduled. Organizers say about 350 vehicles were expected.

The truckers are calling on Congress to stop subsidizing big oil companies, release oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserves, and end exports of oil from Alaska, among other things.

Many of the truckers drove to Washington from Harrisburg, Pa., and other areas to the north. One passenger held a sign that read "Enough is Enough." The sound of so many semi-truck horns blaring was deafening.

1. A fund needs to be set up to help these truckers pay for the fuel used
during these protest.

These guys are getting hit much harder than those of who just need to get to and from work. Driving is their work and the oil monsters are screwing them.

I am in full support of any protest they do and hope they completely shut this country down. Then someone in Washington might wake up and do something about this situation.

4. They're saying they aren't making any money anymore with these prices...
No wonder people are in fear of food rationing.

The truckers bring the food and everything else!

I agree with all that you wrote!

5. Hell yeah! I wish
I still had my little pick up and I'd have joined them!

I think this should have been more publicized and I'll

bet that many people would join that parade!

The cop looked like he was enjoying it! :D

6. THANKS FOR THIS POST.
I looked everywhere and did not find it on my news home page. I called my representatives about the truckers and posted it on this site.

Most the people on this site were too busy talking about their candidate for President and Rev. Wright.

Did it make the mainstream media at all?

7. Their demands are reasonable
The oil cartels and hoarders and screwing us over beyond belief and if we dumped 25 percent of the reserve on the market it would teach them a lesson and in the panic to get rid of stock it may drive it below 100 again.

If oil prices get any higher my bets are on many small trucking companies just selling their rigs to put a dent in their debt and going out of business which means the economy will be severely affected.

This is the emergency situation needed to warrant a 25 percent dump of the reserve into market.

18. We people need to unite and strike against what's going on with out paid/elected officials, will
only continue to get increasingly worse. anyone thinking this is going to blow over after Bushco returns money to be redistributed will be in for a bad surprise. 50,000 US. home s were foreclosed in March, how many in April?

19. They don't have a leg to stand on. Oil companies are losing money left and right.
Look and Exxon for example. They are losing money and paying an obscene amount of taxes.

Oh, and BTW, for those not mentally illuminated in the ways of satire:

:P

:hi:

snip--> TRUCKERS AND CITIZENS UNITED

http://truckersandcitizensunited.theamericandriver.com/

And the trucks cannot operate without filling their tanks with fuel. It now costs, on average,
OVER $1,350 to fill an 18-wheeler's tank ONCE!!! This lasts 2-4 days!! That is THE TRUTH to
why ALL your basic needs and supplies are skyrocketing!!!

22. It's rediculous how far we ship things in trucks. Why we don't use trains I don't know.
We should be using Trains.
