4. A warrior race from Star Trek

Although Mr. Wu is wrong...the Klingons have honor. I guess that's why he called them "faux-Klingons" which I believe is a sort of insult among Trekkers.

21. the neocons are no where near as Honorable as Klingon's
they seem to be more a combination of romulans, feringi and cardasians. who are manipulating the christian version of the taliban.

2. on dependablerenegade.com, Rice is pictured as the Klingon
ambassador. :)

A Klingon is a star trek character that was the villain in the first series, the USSR so to speak. They are semi-allies with the federation now due to environmental collapse of their systems. its not a compliment.

7. i saw a clip of this on tv (olbermann maybe?) and kept waiting for him
to say that what is happening in the government is not science fiction, and run down that track.

i think this star trek comparison was a bit odd

17. I am a big fan of Star Trek
but I have to admit to being more than a bit embarrassed that one of our DEMs would make such a lame comparison.

9. Ferengis or Romulans are a better analogy although it doesn't as easily fit a warmongerer theme.(nt)

12. "Klingons" reference doesn't fit
In fact, I can't think of any of the villains from any of the ST series that even come close to the insanity that this admin has been demonstrating.

In sci-fi world, the closest I can think of is from the late Douglas Adams' Hitchhikers' Guide - in this case, the Vogons.

Now in fantasy world, there is the "Unmentionables" from Terry Pratchetts NightWatch. Thats pretty enlightening.

14. What an idiot. This is NOTHING like Star Trek...

But it's almost precisely like the second season of Babylon 5.

4 of 7 people found the following review helpful:
B5 was eerily prescient about the here and now, May 5, 2006
Reviewer: Robert Carver "Jeffersonian Trekker" (Metairie, Louisiana) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)

I just watched the 2nd Season of B5 again and I was amazed at how closely JMS' story arc resembled our current political situation here in the U.S. We have a President who took office under suspicious circumstances, a nebulous foe lurks in the shadows and can't be found but they influence a pre-emptive strike to start a devastating war that costs many lives which also destabilized the region, the Department of Peace & Night Watch sounds a lot like the Department of Homeland Security and the NSA, civil liberties are being curtailed in the name of safety and security, alliances have been made with "evil" associates, etc etc etc.

Why do I get the feeling that Mr. Morden works for Dick Cheney? Yes, I know some will say this is just a crazed liberal rant, but the great thing about well-written sci-fi is just how well it models our current culture. JMS' 5-year story arc was sheer brilliance and I hope he was prescient about the good guys defeating the shadows that run our own government at this time. It actually gives me some hope for the future. Fighting for our civil liberties is our last best hope for victory.

> Scifi needs to put Babylon 5 reruns back on!

I agree. Babylon 5 needs another TV/cable exposure since it didn't even get it when it was first run! Also, since Star Trek franchise series have been seen many times and are already being aired on half a dozen other cable outlets, the Scifi Channel doesn't need to air them. Also since many people have Tivo, DVR, or some other video recording device, I can't see why B5 cannot be placed somewhere on the channel, especially if old, old series still are hosted and trash like the "new" Battlestar Galactica are prominently placed and promoted.

Even if the Scifi Channel chooses not to air Babylon 5, you can still view and even download selected episodes online at AOL on their In2TV section. It helps to have a high speed connection also.

15. More like Cardassians actually.
I found this about the Cardassians on www.startrek.com:

...The occupiers of Bajor subjugated the people and mined its resources, annexing it outright some 19 years into its 60-year occupation (beginning 2309) and building Terek Nor, now known as Deep Space Nine, initially as a mining station in 235, perhaps using Romulan technology in some components. They then stripped the surface of Bajor and Deep Space Nine alike in vengeance when they withdrew less than two weeks before stardate 46388, leaving everything from basic systems to religious areas in shambles. Some who resisted, including four Promenade merchants, were killed.

The Cardassians also stole eight of the nine Bajoran prophets' orbs, causing a worried Kai Opaka to charge Commander Sisko with locating their Celestial Temple before the Cardassians found and destroyed it. Despite that, as a show of faith, Commander Sisko allows Dukat's crew aboard for shore leave. Their reputation for maltreatment of prisoners is well known, but in the world of commerce they are known for paying their bills. Their officials and officers were not above taking bribes from lowly Bajorans....

OH Yeah, and they also have their own "No Child Left Behind" policy:

...When alleged that children at age 4 are put into intensive mind-training programs, it is acknowledged as the "unparalleled" educational system of the quadrant....

20. I would apply them more to a show, Babylon 5 - The Centauri
The Centauri are aliens that look human, lie and are part of a crumbling Empire, they are major warmongers. They pretend to be sophisticated and cultured while they make deals with the 'devils' of the show, the shadow and they commit wartime attrocities.

Of course, Bab-5 doesn't have the huge following that Star Trek does.
