1. Wowee, wow, wow, WOW!!!
Thank you for posting this. I'd seen several threads about it, but hadn't seen it until just now.

What really struck me was that Shore was asking the members of the SCOTUS to abide by the rule of law, not the rule of man, especially when he said that if his daughter had been raped, he would probably want to kill the person, but essentially, that is not the role of the Supreme Court (my distilled analysis of this clip).

Again, I say, Wowee, wow, wow, WOW!

That. Was. Amazing!

Hubby is pretty liberal but Alan is Waaaaaaaaaaaay more sexy!

William Shatner was great. Imagine farting in "their general direction"

Truly a Monty Python moment.

Of all the fantastic political outburst that Alan Shore has had through out the series, this is absolutely the best one.

MUST SEE!

48. Writer's license would dictate that they just leave it where it ended.
But that's just my guess.

Cordially,

5. There really is no law in America anymore.
There are rules that rich and powerful men choose between. If they happen to dislike one or all the rules that govern them, then these rich and powerful men ignore them or spin the law to obfuscate the true intent.

But the laws are rigorously forced upon the poor and middle class, the powerless and pitiful. Among those wretches you will see the full force of the law hammered upon their minds and bodies. In America, laws were meant to broken by rich powerful men and corporations, but don't let the poor and weak break a rule, for the full force of injustice will bear down upon them.

10. It's only a matter of time...
...before ABC and the powers-that-be pull the plug on this show. This country can't seem to abide somebody with their 'left-wing agenda', as the Justice Roberts' character from this episode said. My guess is that they'll start to 'swift-boat' it with some sleazy info about James Spader's sex life...or that the ACLU regularly consults with the writers on script development...or to dismiss it with a 'whataya expect from them Librals frum Boss-tun?'

It's become my favorite and I just hope David Kelly keeps on keeping on until he has no further reason to...namely after a Barack Obama Administration cleans house in the Justice Department and starts to work the hell on the SCOTUS - the sooner we figure out a way, even if it's a Constitutional amendment that provides for some way to rid ourselves of jurors with ideologically-warped agendas, the better off the country will be.

13. They'll keep it on as long as it is making big bucks for them...Money and Power are
the duel gods for the powers that be in this country.

And the truth is that no one would ever get away with a speech like this in the Supreme Court, so ABC and Disney can always say that it is pure fiction.

It's a great show, though. Through a surrogate, and actor, we get to say on a national forum what needs to be said. Even if the forum is "pure fiction."

14. ABC is not giving this show up
Boston Legal makes the network a ton of money. Plus it has some of the highest per capita earnings for almost any show (something like people who make over $100,000 are more likely to watch BL as opposed to Law & Order SVU - a show on at the same time).

As for the show last night, I was clapping when I heard what he said. Denny got his wish - Clarence Thomas finally said something. It was so quick-witted, that it had me going from the beginning of his speech to the end. Oh yeah and how about John Laroquette (Carl) reprimanding and praising him at the same time?? That was brilliant. And it's about time that they rename the Best Actor Emmy award to the James Spader Award. He is just so much better than any actor on TV today.

20. I saw this last night.
What a fantastic speech.

I like how Boston Legal throws out facts that people don't hear on the news. I wonder how many people knew that Exxon-Mobil still hasn't paid for Exxon-Valdez, or that so many of the court's decisions split right along ideological lines.

23. Judge Stevens
Dissent in Bush v. Gore:

"The endorsement of that position by the majority of this Court can only lend credence to the most cynical appraisal of the work of judges throughout the land. It is confidence in the men and women who administer the judicial system that is the true backbone of the rule of law. Time will one day heal the wound to that confidence that will be inflicted by today's decision. One thing, however, is certain. Although we may never know with complete certainty the identity of the winner of this year's Presidential election, the identity of the loser is perfectly clear. It is the Nation's confidence in the judge as an impartial guardian of the rule of law."

I never miss an episode. They always bring up extremely current issues and present them factually. Like the fact that Clarence Thomas hasn't spoken from the bench since Feb 2006. I wish I could recommend this video more than once!

Alan Shore's rants are always so dead-on and righteous.

I don't always watch the show, but every time I do, I am impressed with his wonderful arguments in court.

His rant last night should be required viewing for millions in this country. Thank you David Kelly.

34. What a great oral argument
Of course in the real world it would never be given. The red light would go on very quickly into this argument. The very fact that no attorney would ever and could ever say these things to the Justices without incurring huge career consequences. Thats what makes this a great argument because in the real world it could never and will never be given.

my husband gave me the re-cap he usually does when I don't make it through a film (or TV show):

"In the end, they all died."

It's sort of a family joke, and funnier if you knew us. He's an owl (stays up late) and I'm a lark (get up early).

I really have to tell you how much I appreciate seeing this. We are big "Boston Legal" fans... and we're going there for a visit next month!

Yours truly,

Radio Lady in Oregon

AMAZING PERFORMANCE - the real SCOTUS most likely wouldn't have allowed him the rant in the middle where he went off on them, but it's what made this awesome - b/c I believe a few of them will eventually see this, as they'll hear about it, and they NEED to hear this - and someone needs to get the CJ of the SCOTUS to especially watch this, as since he's come in with his sly smile, a lot of negative things have happened!
