1. She has done well for herself.
She's an Ivy League graduate.
She's middle class, her children have a secure future, and she may become the first AA first lady.

Also, all the things in the video.

19. I see what you think is an America to be proud of , but it is
Edited on Sat Apr-05-08 12:48 AM by The Wielding Truth
a shallow hole without the liberty and freedom that is not seen in the flags and the wars ships, and Condi's words, or Powell's lack of truthful words. You have missed the real pride of America. It is equality and respect for the struggle of those who are not beautiful kodak moments. Why are there no pictures of the face of America that you refuse to see.

The underclass that has become irrelevant in the RW world of puppies and perfect consumer desires.

This BTW has nothing to do with the feeling that was expressed by Michelle Obama. She was overwhelmed at the love and admiration that she was experiencing while campaigning for her husband. She had no idea that there was so much spirit for change out there and she was proud of America in a way in which she had never felt before.

You have a problem with that? Of course, this is her home, and she is as proud of it as you are.

Watch her and give her a chance. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CqsDydV-I6E&feature=related

2. Michelle Obama
Edited on Fri Apr-04-08 09:24 PM by unknownone
I am very worried about her... people have attacked Hillary over the years a lot but none would argue she hates our country... Michelle though says as much outright about herself

yes Michelle has had to deal with racial issues Hillary never has had to but I am sorry, if you went to Ivy League schools and am a professional and yet am not proud of the country where such goals are obtainable by a black women whereas some countries instead physically torture all women, especially minorities (particularly in the middle east) just shows how out of it Ms. Obama is

10. you are right
In context it is nowhere near as outrageous as it is out of context... I guess the news takes it out of context far too much... it was a really bad choice of words at least though

12. she is a powerful speaker
very professional and i just love her. what an awesome 1st lady she is going to be. my daughter will have her as a role model. i am so excited and she said something i so agree with-we were never asked to sacrifice anything for this war-just the soldiers and their families. we should go shop. i have not always been proud of america-like when they committed genocide on my native american ancestors. when they raped and continue to rape and pillage africa. when my ancestors were forced into the middle passage. when i see the numbers of dead iraqis and americans over an unfounded and poorly managed war. when the prison industrial complex-fed by the mandatory maximum sentences flourish all over this country. i am not proud of america-for the deaths of good leaders like mlk, jfk and jr, robert kennedy, malcolm-i will stop here. but going to the moon or mars doesn't impress me when we have so many starving and homeless in the usa-on earth.

The OP is out of the right wing play book: take a remark out of context and pollute the air with it.

The best way to fight back is to put the truth out for all to see and allow each to make his own judgment.

15. I Never Thought Of It That Way
Even hearing Michelle Obama's quote out of context, I never questioned her patriotism. I thought that maybe for her, pride had to be personal - something she experienced and was a part of - for her to feel it. It occurred to me she may not have meant it literally - I mean, it wasn't that she never felt pride before, just that this surpassed anything she'd previously felt. I also figured she might be a negative person - always seeing the bad in things and not the good. I figured Barack must be a pretty good match for her, because he's so positive and full of hope and optimism.

But questioning some one's patriotism because they don't blindly love America and cry at Lee Greenwood - that's such a Republican attitude.

16. I agree, I saw her make the remark and was appalled that she
would say that in public. She has much to be proud of. Where else could she have gotten such a fine education at a prestigious school and get up the ladder in her field as fast as she did. She not only made the remark about not being proud she also wrote
a thesis about how she felt about the school and how she was treated. I think she must have some kind of complex.

24. So the only reason Mrs. Obama has to be proud of The US is
because people are listening to her hubby? Disappointing; I don't think I would find it easy to be proud of her as a first lady. I don't think she was just 'misspeaking' or that it was a poor choice of words, after all she is well known for speaking her mind.

5. The only swiftboating that occured..
was when Michelle Obama took Bill Clinton's "fairytale" comment out of context in order to play the race card against the Clintons.

"Give me a break. This whole thing is the biggest fairy tale I've ever seen," Clinton had said in accusing Obama of distorting his stance on the war."

and you don't support him then you should get the heck out. Not to long ago I donated to Barack Obama ,but if Hillary becomes our nominee then of course I will vote for her.

6. JD.. the overuse of a word.."swiftboating"
for every little perceived infringement on your sensibilities eventually will render it meaningless!

I think you have achieved that threshold!

14. Oh, I'm So Proud...
Yes, I'm so proud of Cabbage Patch dolls, My Little Pony and Transformers. How many of these toys which so define America are made here vs. by "slave" labor overseas?

I'm so proud of Family Ties, Golden Girls and The A Team - how these television shows have enriched our culture!

One could make a video showing a lot of bad stuff about America - including statistics on people without health insurance and Katrina survivors waiting for help. It could include the ruins of the Alfred P Murrah Federal Building on April 19, 1995 and the kids leaving Columbine High School 4 years and one day later. It could remind us of the Valdez oil spill. Then we could ask, "Why are you proud to be an American?"

22. No. She didn't miss all of that. Your problem . . .
Edited on Sat Apr-05-08 11:07 AM by Krashkopf
and the problem of the right-wingers who produced this "feel good" piece of crap, is that you see ONLY that.

Yes, we Americans have a lot to be proud of. The ideals that America was founded on were truly ENLIGHTENED and REVOLUTIONARY. They changed to world. Its too bad we stopped living by them. And, yes, we have done a lot of good in the world (although it was usually when that "good" coincided with "American interests.").

Now, let me ask you some questions:

Are you, and Hillary, proud of America's original sin, slavery, a national birth defect written right into the Constitution?

Are you, and Hillary, proud of slavery's Jim Crow legacy, or present day racism?

Are you, and Hillary, proud of America's genocide against native Americans?

Are you, and Hillary, proud of the Alien and Sedition Acts; or the Palmer Raids; or the internment of Japanese Americans during WWII; or COINTELLPRO; or the so-called "U.S.A. Patriot Act"?

Are you, and Hillary, proud of the fact that our Government lied us into a long, bloody war in VietNam; or a long, bloody war in Iraq?

Are you, and Hillary, proud of the fascist dictators that we supported in Chile; or the fascist dictators that we have supported in Iran; or the fascist dictators that we supported in Iraq; or the fascist dictators that we support in Saudi Arabia; or the fascist dictator that we support in Pakistan; or the fascist dictator that we support in Uzbekistan . . .

Are you, and Hillary, proud of abu Ghraib; and of Guantanamo Bay; and black site prisons; and extraordinary rendition.

The list goes on, and on, and on . . .

It sounds like YOU are the one who has been "mis-educated."

Remember,it was Thomas Jefferson who said: "I tremble for my Country when I recall that GOD is just."

Truer words were never spoken.
