... giving a link to a NATION article about one of the candidate's positions that clearly showed hypocrisy of the stance taken today. Did not use bad words, tried to be gentle, was simply trying to back my position as to my concerns about the sincerity of the candidate's dedication to the issue.
Without giving so much as one reason whatsoever as to why the article was false or misleading and for having the audacity to link it, I was called a "hater" by a person who claims to be a university professor! Hell hath no fury like an academic who was shown a different piece of information that they "know" is wrong but refuse to show why it is! Why you are just supposed to KNOW BY OSMOSIS they are right and you are wrong. WTF?
I am *not* making this up.
Youdda thunk she of ALL people were taught to be a critical thinker, but ...I guess she never got the memo, lol.
I used to work at a university as the "help" not in the academics area, but hey if you want a "downstairs" glimpse of absurdity, work in parking, kitchens or janitorial and you will get a REAL eye opener, lol. I found it to be one of the most elitist, narrow minded and really rather unrealistic bunch of people I had ever met before or since. And these people are the ones making our policy and behind those "think tanks" full of Little Napoleons whose REAL thinking is about, "What An Important Person I Am Because I Got A Doctorate And What An Insignificant Person Anybody Else Is If They Only Worked Their Butts Off But Never Got MY Degree, So Therefore They Did Not Work As Hard As I Did"
While working there I knew a student, a young man who was denied his degree because of a requirement to take Women's Studies, which at first he had no problem doing. But when his professor insisted the *only* "right" answer to an essay question was: "All men are rapists," he took offense. As a woman I could not agree with that young man more. However unless he answered the question in that way and ONLY that way, could he get his degree. It made national headlines because the university (University of Washington) threw the man out of college for raising the legitimate question as to whether or not this was a "correct" answer that should hinge on whether or not he got his degree. And if I had to pay almost $20,000.00 for my classes to earn a degree, I myself would have been screaming too, "What a bunch of lying thieves!"
Still I WAS surprised that a so-called professor could only come up with a statement like "hater" instead of backing up her position with a little meat. But nope, instead she stamped her patent leather high heeled shoes and angrily clicked away while throwing such "intellectual" garbage like, "Why you ...you are nothing but a f-ing hater!"
Uhhhhhh, I have some news for people like this: Give me some red meat, a real argument if you want me to consider your stance. I want to hear refuting with some facts, not a bunch of rhetoric and crap like, "Harrumph! So and So is DEAD to me!"
1. Why am I a hater or they are dead to you besides that someone had the audacity to say the TRUTH?
2. Was the information cherry picked? Then let me hear how it was by adding credible information (a link is nice) that illuminates the information further.
3. Is it a lie? Point to something, an article, a statement by the person or something that says otherwise.
4. Or has the person gotten a moment of illumination and therefore taken an opposite stance? Show me!
Sheesh that is all I ask, especially from people who should know better. Just shouting names instead of giving some facts is not going to change my mind. Bickering to me is about not having a decent conversation and just attacking the writer, it should go nowhere except back down the attacker's gullet where it should belong. I usually do this by my utter refusal to address the "rebuttal" or "article" since it is nothing but a bunch of crap and not worth my time.
Thanks Mike Malloy and coolandrew for giving me a place to rant too, I needed to get that out!
My 2 cents ...
