2. One of the greatest....

the shocker is that so few people have ever seen it....my b-i-l watched it with me for the first time over the thanksgiving weekend...he was appalled at the "gung-ho" attitude.....he missed the point.

I always wondered about that last scene in the movie...let's discuss it...

Did "Joker" shoot the female sniper out of revenge or pity for her suffering?

What was his "full metal jacket"?

3. "Great" only in the sense that it shows the complete degradation

of humanity during times of war.

Lest we not forget that the Drill Sergeant was wasted for being a TOTAL Asshole.

It was not accurate in it's true portrayal of Vietnam Era Drill Sergeants, even those of the USMC flavor. The drill sergeant portrayed in this film would have been "fragged" before he returned from his first tour.

Sure, it's fun to quote lines from this flick, but if you get the full message, heart and soul, you wouldn't wish your worst enemy to experience the horrors of war. You are never the same emotionally ... and not ever in a good way.

BTW, "full metal jacket" merely refers to the magazine that the 7.62 mm ammo for the M-16. The term does not have great depth. It was used by a de-compensating "Private Pyle" before he killed the drill sergeant then blew his own shit away.

Nothing laudable about war. Nothing at all. :(
