My personal tooklit for poll greeting (especially for newbies)
Some ideas to keep in mind for the 2008 election if this was your first time to work as a poll greeter. Here's what I kept on my person:

Democratic Flyers - For self-explanatory reasons.

Glowsticks - Remember, it gets dark early when Election Day rolls around. You should be able to pick up some good glowsticks at an Army/Navy surplus store for about $1 each. Give the extras to other poll greeters, or save them for the victory party afterwards.

Flashlight - A good, sturdy Mag-Lite that holds two D-cell batteries should work just fine. Very helpful if there's muddy spots on the sidewalk and no streetlights to illuminate them. You'll be doing the voters a big favor.

Pizza - At my polling place, some of the poll greeters hadn't eaten since breakfast. Make sure your fellow greeters are adequately nourished!

Cell phone - In case anyone suspects shenanigans from the election judge, the poll watchers, and/or the voting machines. Keep a good lawyer's number handy.
