I'm chopping eggs in a wooden bowl my father chopped eggs in 50 years ago
It's therapy for me at the moment. I had a long day that involved my second chemotherapy infusion treatment. It went well enough, but I had too much time to reflect on life and became a little down in spirits, plus we are experiencing triple digit weather that makes most food seem unappealing, so I'm making egg salad sandwiches to lift my spirits, and thinking about how my father diligently chopped eggs in the same magical wooden bowl when I was a child. Is that a run on sentence or are the drugs kicking in?

Thank you DU for letting me rant/vent.

1. That sounds like a wonderful form of therapy
for the memories and for the protein. We all need to find something that helps us through those chemo days. I can't think of anything more healing than the thoughts of precious childhood memories, especially magic bowls.

Do you take anything with you to do during sessions? I used to take crosswords, rug hooking, supplies for jewelry making, books. MP3 player; anything to keep my hands and mind busy. I know a lot of people can sleep, but I felt if I could stay awake and keep focused it would help with chemo brain. Well, I got chemo brain anyway, but maybe it would have been worse for me if I hadn't done all those things. It made me feel better in any case.

Keep taking care and you're more than welcome to come vent with us here any time.

2. How fortunate you are
to have wonderful memories to help you through the days. Egg salad always was a favourite of mine. I hope the memories of your Father bring you much joy and comfort.

I also hope you feel well and are able to stay relatively cool. Drink lots.

take care.

3. Sounds like a great idea and wonderful therapy.
(And no, the sentence sounds just fine. :D)

I love that you've kept that bowl and you're feeling a connection to your father right now.

I hope your treatments are going well. It's hard, I know.

Sandwiches are always great in this hot weather. I've been living on fruits and raw veggies!

I think feeling down is normal, really normal. This group is great - we are here so you (and everyone else) can rant and vent all you want.

Take care of yourself, and best of luck to you in your treatment. :grouphug:

5. Quick update and a warm thanks for responses
I Just completed third infusion treatment on a tremendous upbeat note. Blood test results are looking real good, and accordingly, my oncologist has increased my chemotherapy dose by 50%. My body is getting strong and can take it; I've gained forty pounds; my red and white blood counts are high; my platelet count is supper. Everyone is happy including myself.

Maybe I'll show my son the secret to make magic egg salad sandwiches this weekend. ;)

6. What a great update!
The bowl and egg salad recipe are family heirlooms of more properties than meets the eye.

It's heartening to hear how well you're doing and your success gives everyone a boost.
