1. Same old crap. Everyone has to speak English but the
English speakers don't need to learn another language in exchange. I would say fine, but your kids need to learn another language really well too. It doesn't have to be Spanish. It can be French, German, Chinese or Urdu as far as anyone is concerned but it needs to be fair.

3. And olvidate about the Guadalupe-Hidalgo, which specifies
that Spanish is co-equal with English in the territories settled by the treaty.

2. The Republicans have done everything they can to stir up hatred
and stupidity in this country. I've never seen it so bad since the 60s.

Maybe I wasn't looking, but it seems very bad to me today.

4. It seems pretty bad to me too
and these people swear that immigrants aren't trying to learn English. It's a really hard language to learn especially if you're an adult. My mom came here when she was 12 so she learned it quite easily but language becomes harder to learn as you get older. In any case, children born to those immigrants speak English. They act as if nobody is speaking any English and that Spanish is going to take over. It's completely irrational and idiotic.

5. The grammar is really hard for those who weren't raised
and schooled in it from kindergarten on. My mother tried so hard. She actually learned to speak it fluently but it was grammatically something similar to Charo. She went to community college to try to learn the proper grammar and spelling but she failed the class twice and the teacher wouldn't let her take it a third time because the teacher said it would be a waste of time for both of them.

6. A DUer posted a thread that showed that there are more people
Edited on Sun Jun-03-07 12:39 AM by sfexpat2000
who want to learn English than there are ESL classes. This whole "they refuse to learn English" is bs.

Edit: The DUer was proud2blib. I don't have the link but she probably does.
