Europe is real expensive now because the dollar's low, so where could somebody go
that there wouldn't be that problem? Outside the US, I mean?

1. seems as though South America is still somewhat
affordable. Buenos Aires is very European in nature - and without the crime problems of Rio.

Also heard from Costa Rica travelers that it is still a reasonable trip.

2. Lot's of places
In Africa, S. America and parts of Asia you can still find deals though you may be traveling a bit rougher that some would prefer.

Heck, even in Europe. Last year my wife and I went to Poland, Hungary and Romania with a couple of days Western Europe and Prague. Prague isn't the deal it was a few years ago but the further East you go the cheaper it gets. There's lots to see and not as many tourists. We had a great time, incredibly friendly people in Romania.

I know how you feel, I'd love to do a trip to Ireland. I've never been but with the dollar so bad right now I'm not going this year that's for sure.

My wife and I are going to Thailand and Cambodia instead. It's not as cheap as it was but it's a lot better than the Euro and we have to go somewhere. Most people can afford to travel if it's a priority, it's the difference between meals in restaurants and meals from grocery stores. Hotels or Hostels, High season or low.

Ankor Wat has been high on my list of destinations for a long time anyway :-)

Edited to add

Oh yeah! A friend of mine went to Croatia. He has some family there. Said it was wonderful with great beaches, beautiful islands and an economy that is gearing up for tourism. They have rebuilt from the war and welcome visitors. Also cheap!
