Trump Plaza dealers OK union
Two days after a right-to-work group unsuccessfully sought to cancel or delay a union vote at Trump Plaza Hotel and Casino, more than two-thirds of dealers there have voted to join a union.

The dealers voted 324 to 149 late Saturday night to join the United Auto Workers union, the group announced on its Web site.

"The election victory is superb news for Trump Plaza dealers and all Atlantic City dealers," said UAW Secretary-Treasurer Elizabeth Bunn. "We look forward to bargaining with Trump Plaza management to secure a great first contract that benefits casino workers and the gaming industry in New Jersey."

A spokesman for Trump Plaza did not immediately return a call for comment.

1. We should be able to find something more efficent than the unions.
Companies have figured out how to beat us there. Workers are sadly too slow to adapt.

Granted, I don't have the answers. Any ideas what would work better?

The United States Federation of Worker Cooperatives is the only organization in the U.S. representing worker cooperative interests nationally. There are local networks and federations throughout the U.S. in the San Francisco Bay area, the Twin Cities, Portland, Oregon, and Boston, Massachusetts, and Asheville, North Carolina.<8>

Canada
Worker co-ops in Canada are represented by the Canadian Worker Co-op Federation(CWCF). Members of the CWCF are found throughout English Canada<9>. Quebec has a distinct worker co-operative history, and is presently organised into a number of regional federations.

Venuezuela
The Chávez government in Venezuela has a policy of financing worker cooperatives, resulting in a growing number in that country. <10>

Argentina
In response to the economic crisis in Argentina, many Argentinian workers occupied the premises of bankrupt businesses and began to run them as worker-owned cooperatives. As of 2005, there were roughly 200 worker-owned businesses in Argentina, most of which were started in response to this crisis. <11> The documentary film The Take is the best-known document in English about this phenomenon.
