Workers Are Not a “Special Interest”
Wednesday, January 2nd, 2008

In his most recent entry on the Huffington Post, President Gerald W. McEntee sets the record straight on Sen. Barack Obama’s health care plan, AFSCME’s critique of it, and the labeling of labor unions as “special interests.”

When it comes to health care, our union and the labor movement in general are not a “special interest.” We fight for the general interest. Our campaign for health care for all is about our commitment to a better America, and no one in America should go without the medical care they need as so many in our country do now.

1. Yeah.That was right up there with HRC "lobbyists are people too" as though
labor and energy , or tobbacco and insurance lobbyists are equal somehow. Not right of Obama. His union support should look at that.

2. These are important points: have you considered cross-posting
in GDP? I think it is important and timely in the political game to point out especially that:

What's more, it does not help the Democratic nominee, regardless of who she or he is, to have him criticize the activities of workers and their unions now – whether those activities are member education, 527 efforts or independent expenditures – when they'll be so critical to the outcome of the general election later.

This attack on 527s is incredibly short-sighted. How many voters did 527s register and turn-out for Kerry in '04? Probably millions. How else are we, in the absence of publicly funded elections, to counter the $$$ of corporations?

5. "Nobody has any ethics"
Speak for yourself, sandnsea.

In another thread, you called me a liar. I was telling the truth. I provided evidence in the man's own words, from his own website, and I provided a link.

You called me a liar. Will you retract that?

Until you do, you have NO basis on which to condemn the ethics of anyone else around here.

7. I'm headed across the river to Iowa

I won't be home until late tonight. I'm working tomorrow. I will post about the ASFCME Obama situation Friday night or Saturday. I'm sorry for the delay, I'm just short on time. For now just remember I have broken ranks with AFSCME on it's choice of Senator Clinton. This is not an easy thing for me to do. I have pointed out several times I don't like the way AFSCME has handled the entire situation with Senator Obama.
