AFSCME Council 5 is seeking a data specialist. The deadline for applications is Nov. 8.

AFSCME Council 5

Pursuant to the provisions of the Staff Union Contract, we are posting the above Data Specialist position. This position is full-time (37.5 hours per week), Monday thru Friday between the hours of 8:00 AM and 4:30 PM and is based out of the South St. Paul Office. The starting salary is $3,602.00 per month.

JOB SUMMARY:
We are looking for the non-standard data entry or data processing specialist. We want someone who is passionate about databases and enjoys the logic and problem solving that comes with mapping and working with raw data.

PRIMARY DUTIES:
• This position is heavily detail-oriented and requires daily in-depth use of our database system.
• Manage, organize, maintain, and provide user support for the database.
• Report needs specification and analysis.
• Exporting, Importing and mapping raw data received for the database.
• Develop and maintain standards for database integrity and quality assurance.
• Work with current membership staff to produce standard operating procedures in our database.
• Manage communication processes with other departments regarding database improvements.
• Conduct audits and provide feedback to reduce errors and improve processes and performance.
• General data entry.

REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES:
• Previous knowledge in maintaining and populating databases and computer files.
• S/he must be personable, motivated, flexible under pressure, and highly organized.
• Demonstrate critical thinking and problem solving abilities.
• Must have experience in developing, directing and managing multiple projects.
• Must have strong administrative and computer skills.
• Attention to detail and ability to organize and set priorities a must.
• Ability to overcome technical and non-technical challenges.
• Must have excellent typing/computer skills, including high proficiency in Windows.
• Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite particularly Access and Excel (and Excel functions).
• Must be extremely analytical and detailed-oriented to maintain a high level of data integrity.
• Skills to interpret needs of users to produce report output.

Minimum Associates Degree OR 2 years business experience in data entry manipulation.
Programming knowledge is a plus.
