Psst, here's the plan

No link. From an email.

I’m writing today to wish you a Happy New Year and share with you what the year has in store for the UFW. Because of the important role you've played as a partner in the mission of the United Farm Workers, we want to let you in on our 2011 plans.

Recent political events in California, a state where the majority of our nation's farm workers labor, make us confident we can win significant legislative changes.

We have an ambitious agenda planned and hope you will support us by making a monthly gift or one-time donation to help in our efforts. Key components of the UFW’s current legislative and legal agenda are:

* Passage of the “Fair Treatment for Farm Workers Act,” which allows farm workers to use the existing union election procedure or make a decision on unionization through a majority sign-up election.

* Resolution of our lawsuit, filed in conjunction with the ACLU, the Public Counsel Law Center and the law firm of Munger, Tolles & Olson LLP, against the State of California and its Occupational Safety and Health Administration for failing to protect farm workers from deadly heat.

* Passage of the bipartisan Agricultural Job Opportunities, Benefits and Security (AgJOBS) Act, which will allow current, professional farm workers to have stronger legal protections.

* Inclusion of farm workers under the federal Occupational Health and Safety Administration’s fall protection standards. Between 2004 and 2009, 157 farm workers died due to falls—a shocking, tragic loss of lives.

Fair laws on the books and justice in the courts aren’t enough. Farm workers need to be unionized so they can fight for themselves. During the past 15 years, the UFW has won contracts at industry-leading strawberry, mushroom, vegetable and wine grape companies. But there is so much more we need to do to ensure farm workers get the basic rights most of us take for granted.

Will you help? Please make a monthly gift or one-time donation today. Every donation, regardless of the amount, makes a difference.

Si Se Puede!

Arturo S. Rodriguez
President

PS: In appreciation for your monthly donation we’ve created the Si Se Puede* society to recognize caring friends like you. We have special gifts we’ll send you to recognize each level of participation. Click to see benefits for each level.

1. A real farm worker helps farm workers. Colbert did that.
There are some that try to live off of oppression of farm workers.

Then there is monopoly agricultural systems.

Even heard on the TV show that many intelligence operatives are paid through the agricultural sector of government, aka farm subsidies and such.(Bachman???) Wouldn't that be funny if true.
