Construction workers in New Jersey spent Tuesday rallying for a tunnel project that was recently put on hold by Governor Chris Christie. Jesse Russell reports:
The construction workers rallying on Tuesday claimed that ending the already in progress ARC Tunnel project, which would see a rail tunnel extending under the Hudson River, represent thousands of jobs in the region. After initially vowing to end the project due to concerns it would cost New Jersey taxpayers too much money, the Governor is reconsidering the plan following an appeal from the U.S. Department of Transportation. The project was being partially funded by infrastructure contributions into Hudson County to the combined tune of $6 billion dollars from the Port Authority and the federal government. The construction and planning of the tunnel has been in process for nearly 20 years. A new study on the project projected it could over shoot its budget by as much as $1 billion. Nearly $600 million has already been spent on the project.
