Dresser-Rand ships first compressor since strike

PAINTED POST – Dresser-Rand Co. said it shipped its first complete compressor unit today since its union workforce went on strike Aug. 4.

The heavy-duty gas field compressor will be installed in North America to compress carbon dioxide for oil recovery, the company said in a press release.

“The completion of this order two weeks ahead of schedule demonstrates Dresser-Rand’s commitment and capability to maintain uninterrupted service to its clients,” said Douglas D. Rich, director of Painted Post operations.

Steve Coates, president of striking Local 313 IUE CWA, said the compressor was 80 percent complete before the strike occurred.

“They may have had to touch up some paint,” he said.

Rich said Dresser-Rand now has more than 100 temporary replacement workers at its Painted Post plant.
