I remember being filled with "Hope" two years ago
What happened?

Remember the good old days?
Remember when Wal-Mart actually feared us for a change?

They must be laughing now.

Two years ago today:

Wal-Mart Warns of Democratic Win
August 1st, 2008
By ANN ZIMMERMAN and KRIS MAHER

Wal-Mart Stores Inc. is mobilizing its store managers and department supervisors around the country to warn that if Democrats win power in November, they'll likely change federal law to make it easier for workers to unionize companies -- including Wal-Mart.

In recent weeks, thousands of Wal-Mart store managers and department heads have been summoned to mandatory meetings at which the retailer stresses the downside for workers if stores were to be unionized.

According to about a dozen Wal-Mart employees who attended such meetings in seven states, Wal-Mart executives claim that employees at unionized stores would have to pay hefty union dues while getting nothing in return, and may have to go on strike without compensation. Also, unionization could mean fewer jobs as labor costs rise.

5. Some of the things I do
Edited on Sun Aug-01-10 10:41 AM by SHRED
Glad you asked.

Teamster Chief Union Steward of the labor group for the city we work for.
Many hours planning for and meeting with the local city council members to cut through the political rhetoric and get to the truth of what our workers are facing in the way of lowered wages and benefits.
Representing (defending) employees on an individual basis against Management.
Working with our Public Works Director in crafting a strategy going forward to highlight the positives our workforce brings to the public via efficiency, hard work, and dedication.

All unpaid.

6. Good response
I have never seen conservatives as motivated as they are today. They hate this man with a passion and they are fired up and ready to destroy him by any means available to them. We always have to keep in mind that a great majority of American voters are not enlightened when it comes to the issues. It is our job as progressives to educate them one by one and it is our job to keep pressure on the President and Democratic lawmakers. The negativity and "I give up" attitude permeating DU these days is discouraging to say the least. I just volunteered yesterday to help Bill Foster keep his house seat here in Illinois 14. It is really going to be tough for him to hold on to this seat in a red district but it can be done. I don't really have a lot of time but I will do what I can for him.
Peace

7. Oh I'll never give up

Along with my local duties I constantly contact my Representatives to support the EFCA and also try to enlighten those around me to political insights that are not controlled by radio and/or TV.

It truly does get terribly discouraging at times. There have been moments when I actually considered changing my screen name.
