Jul 18, 2010 (York
Daily Record - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --

Workers in United Steelworkers Local 7687 voted unanimously Sunday to reject a contract offer with BAE Systems, union president Dana Edsall said.

Edsall would not comment on the union's next step, but one worker leaving the York Expo Center's Memorial Hall after the vote said he planned to go to work on Monday.

"They'll have to make a better offer," said Dave Hamaker, who works in packaging for the company's military vehicle operations site in West Manchester Township. "It's the best option we had right now."

Randy Coble, spokesman for local BAE facilities, said the company was aware of the vote and would continue to operate under the terms of the contract that expired 21/2 months ago. Workers should report to work as usual Monday, he said.

"There's no change in that status that we've operated under since April 30," Coble said.

Before the vote, several workers said they weren't pleased with the company's proposal, including its health insurance plan.
