REMEMBERING FALLEN WORKERS Wednesday was Workers Memorial Day

http://www.workdayminnesota.org/

Tom McCarthy of Plumbers Local 34 (above) places sashes on crosses, as the names of dead and injured workers are read during a ceremony organized by the Minneapolis and St. Paul Building Trades.

Events were held across the country Wednesday -- Workers Memorial Day -- to remember the fallen and renew the call for workplace safety.

At the Minnesota Department of Transportation's Cedar Truck Station (below) empty chairs, each with a nameplate, are a reminder of the hazards faced by those working on Minnesota's roadways. The commemoration was organized by AFSCME in cooperation with state officials.
