Three hundred New Jersey nursing home workers have been fighting since 2007 for a fair contract with their employer. Jesse Russell reports.

A petition has been delivered to nursing home administrators in Northern New Jersey signed by 3,600 supporters of workers who have been languishing in contract negotiations since mid-2007. The 300 workers at four Omni Health Systems’ nursing homes are represented by the Service Employees International Union 1199. In a statement the union said many of the workers earn less than $8 per hour while they are required to pay nearly $400 per month in health insurance. The National Labor Relations Board said in December that Omni violated labor laws when it refused to reinstate 14 workers who had gone on strike. The company was also hit with complaints of worker intimidation.
