AP: Nursing home’s sale challenged

http://www.omaha.com/article/20091229/NEWS01/712309949

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — The president of the union representing employees at a Lancaster County-owned nursing home is asking a judge to stop the facility’s sale.

Kim Kaspar alleges the Lancaster County Board violated Nebraska law by selling Lancaster Manor below market value.

Attorneys filed a lawsuit Tuesday on Kaspar’s behalf.

The county board is selling the nursing home for $8 million. A subsidiary of Hunter Management of Evanston, Ill., is set to take over operations on Jan. 1

County officials say the facility has been appraised at $9.5 million.

Lancaster County chief administrator, Kerry Eagan, said Tuesday he hadn’t seen the lawsuit and couldn’t comment on it.

The facility has about 230 patients and residents. It has space for nearly 300.
