Chief Executive Officer Richard Anderson broadened criticism of union organizing efforts at the carrier, saying some U.S. labor officials are backing new voting rules "even before they hear arguments."
Anderson said the International Association of Machinists and the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA delayed some steps toward representation votes to take advantage of the possible change and "to collect dues for as long as possible."
The National Mediation Board is considering a plan pushed by the AFL-CIO to let workers form unions with majority approval of those voting, a shift from requiring support from more than half of all affected employees.
Delta, which has a hub at the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport in Hebron, is the least unionized among major U.S. airlines."It certainly looks like the NMB, the two members who are former labor leaders, have made up their mind even before they hear arguments," Anderson said in his weekly message to employees at the world's largest carrier. He previously assailed the rule change as "wrong" and "unfair."
