Today in Labor History Oct 27 The National Negro Labor Council is formed in Cincinnati

Posted a day late.

October 27

October 27, 1904 - The New York City subway, the first rapid-transit system in America, opened. The first route ran north from City Hall to Grand Central Station, then west to Times Square and north to 145th Street. More than 100 workers died during the construction of the first 13 miles of subway tunnels and track. Today, the New York subway system is the largest in the world.

The National Negro Labor Council is formed in Cincinnati to unite black workers in the struggle for full economic, political and social equality. The group was to function for five years before disbanding, having forced many AFL and CIO unions to adopt non-discrimination policies - 1951

1. Steve, you gotta read 'The Given Day' by here-to fore fiction writer
Dennis Lehane. It talks a bunch about the origins of the labor movement in Boston, circa 1918, covering the Boston Police Department especially. It's fiction, but based on history.
