October 28  October 28, 1886 - The Statue of Liberty, a gift from the people of France to the people of the United States, was dedicated in New York City harbor. Over the decades, the statue has welcomed millions of immigrants and symbolized the ideals of this country's founders. The Gateway Arch, a 630 ft high parabola of stainless steel marking the Jefferson National Expansion Memorial on the waterfront of St. Louis, Missouri is completed after two and one-half years.
