Schmatta - Important HBO documentary!
http://www.hbo.com/docs/programs/schmatta/index.html

Was watching part of it this morning. A really good piece on the destruction of manufacturing and the American Dream; focusing on the garment industry. Catch it when you can.

My HBO ondemand is not working. Damn. I'll add this to my must see list when it works again.

2. I watched that a couple nights ago.
Very interesting, and tragic that a fire incident like occurred in 1911 happened again in India just a few years ago. They locked the doors on the poor women.

3. THAT is why our businesses move to other countries - so they do
not have to follow laws - even OSHA laws.

5. K&R!
I posted about this a while back. An old thread. I'm so glad you posted about it today. I watched it last night.

But take a peek at the photo of my dad that I posted there. Probably from the late 1940s.

6. Now that I've looked at that thread...
I remember it, but not this morning. My grandfather and father ran a company making unbranded men's pants and sold pants to Robert Hall, among many others. When my father started there in 1950, the chino pants they made then wholesaled for $1 a DOZEN! Not per pair but per dozen.
Alas, my father relocated the factories from Pennsylvania to Georgia to escape the unions (as much because he is a control freak as for the profit) and would have sent the manufacturing to Hong Kong (where he had a good friend whom he trusted to run the operation) but my grandfather was uncomfortable with that and nixed it. My father has remained quite close to the people who worked for him and keeps in touch with their families as well. I think he treated them fairly; the other choices of bosses down in Georgia at the time were not too charming.
I'm wondering if your photo is from just after the war.
