At its political conference today and tomorrow, the Minnesota AFL-CIO is stepping up efforts to elect a pro-worker governor.
Communications Director Diane O’Brien says the Minnesota AFL-CIO has grown more politically effective over the past decade.
: “In the last ten years labor’s political effort in Minnesota has gotten more intense, more focused and more successful. And it’s great to have 36 union members in our state legislature. It is great to see Al Franken, who is a member of four unions, be elected as senator from our state. And we are all looking forward to the day when we see an worker-friendly governor in the governor’s office.”
O’Brien says a pro-worker governor is extremely important for working families in Minnesota.
: “Virtually everything that the state of Minnesota does on behalf of its citizens has been cut back to unacceptable levels by the current governor. You can just about go right down the line in the state budget. Support for health and human services, support for Minnesota’s public schools – both K-12 as well as higher education, support for public services.”
