Delphi Union Retirees Step Up to Help Salaried Retirees

http://www.wytv.com/content/news/local/story/Delphi-Union-Retirees-Step-Up-to-Help-Salaried/_Yxj5r09jkK46R0magtxkA.cspx

Sunday at the Canfield Fair, Delphi retirees, both union and salary, joined together to try and get the message out that the former salaried employees aren't getting a fair shake.

They are two unlikely partners that are working together for a common goal. The dozens of people that attended this gathering at the Canfield Fair are all Delphi retirees, but about half of them are IUE 717 Union retirees, the other half retired salaried workers.

Last week, a tentative deal was reached so the pensions for the union side would be fully restored. However, that's not the case for the salaried folks.

Bruce Gump, Delphi salaried retiree, says, "Right now, the salaried retirees are in a position where we've lost our healthcare altogether, and our pensions have been transferred to the PBGC. Overall, we are looking at between 30 and 50 thousand dollars per year lost per person."

1. we hang together or we hang separately
First they took the manufacturing jobs, then they outsourced white collar jobs and brought in non-U.S. workers on fraudulent grounds with H1B visas. No one's job is safe unless they're one of the fat cat upper management types or a politician bought and paid for.

2. Fuck management.
I hear what you're saying, and it may apply is some cases...however, there's nothing wrong with a default position of "Fuck Management" without mitigating circumstances.

In many places, it's managers who suck an organization dry. It's management that screws with labor...even to the point of attempting to thwart the right of workers to organize. It's into management that the weak and stupid and incompetent are promoted.

Yes, I realize that there are places that are different, but that's the reality for the majority of the country.

...and I wouldn't lift a finger to preserve the retirement benefits of management.
