Overweight cop headed back to work

A former Bellevue police officer fired for being overweight will soon be back on the job.
The Nebraska Supreme Court declined to review the City of Bellevue's motion to re-examine a Court of Appeals decision that overturned the termination of Christopher D. Parent.
Parent's attorney, Steven Delaney, said Parent would be reinstated as a Bellevue Police officer in a month or two.
Delaney said the city would have to pay Parent back pay and compensate Parent for benefits and all he's been denied since being fired Nov. 28, 2007.
Parent was fired after an internal investigation determined he had not maintained a "high level of physical, mental and emotional conditioning."
Parent had been a member of the Bellevue Police Department for more than 25 years, mostly as a detective, but later was reassigned to patrol.
