Today in labor history Apr 24 International Longshoremen’s and Warehousemen’s Union halted shipping

April 24, 1999 - The International Longshoremen’s and Warehousemen’s Union halted shipping on the West Coast of the United States in solidarity with Mumia Abu-Jamal, a Philadelphia journalist whom many believed was on death row because he was an outspoken African-American. For more on Mumia, see http://www.freemumia.org/ and http://www.labournet.net/docks2/9905/mumia1.htm
