Kellogg's laying off production workers

Kellogg’s says it eliminated the jobs of some production workers at its cereal plant in Omaha today, expanding layoffs that began earlier this month.

The Battle Creek, Mich.-based company declines to say how many workers lost their jobs in what the company describes as moves toward improving efficiency. But the majority of them were eligible for retirement, Kellogg’s spokeswoman Kris Charles said.

Details were limited on March 9, as well, when Kellogg’s officials said only that some jobs were eliminated. At that time, union officials said the layoffs affected only management workers, not the 500 union workers at the plant at 9601 F St.
